I had the original Crystal Case for the 700 series and ran into the issues of the tabs cracking off as well as other assorted issues.

2 weeks ago, I requested an advanced RMA and I just received it in the mail today. I did not realize how restricting the old case with the ridge around the keyboard. The new one has a lowered ridge and I CAN TYPE AGAIN!!! Woohoo!

This one is definitely a tighter fit than the original model and it took a little more work to get it snapped together as a result. The clips on this one don't seem like they would break like the old model and appears to be a better overall design. The area around the screen is more open which allows better access to the edges of the screen (another plus).

This model has a hole cutout for the LED, but its slightly offcenter. It's Not a big deal though. The cutout on the side for the volume has been shaved to an angle on this model to make is much smoother than the original. This makes the side buttons much easier to push now. All other edges have been smoothed out as well. The last improvement is that the cutout for the stylus appears to be a little larger making it easier to remove it.

Overall, this is a 100% improvement over the original model.

    Pros (over the old model)
    • Better clips that are less likely to break
    • Ridges around the keyboard lowered making the outer keys easy to use now
    • Tighter fit (less likely to let dust in)
    • Side opening smoothed down, beveled and wider allowing easier access
    • All edges smoothed down
    • Opening around sylus appears larger making it easier to remove.
    • Opening around the screen is wider allowing you to reach the whole screen. The screen also looks bigger now.
    • Predrilled Reset Hole - Old model had it too, but its worth mentioning

    Cons
    • No Belt Clip Option (see below for a good workaround)
    • LED opening slighly offcenter from the LED. Its hardly noticeable and the old model did not even have an opening. Its not really needed on the clear model though. I suspect this is the same case used on the rubberized version sans the rubber coating. That version would need the hole cut out for the LED.

I will be interested to see how this looks with Zoti's antenna when I get it.

BELTCLIP - HOWTO (see post #11 below for pics of the beltclip on mine)
I like phones on a beltclip and have had my 600, 650, 700p and now my 700wx on one. Since they Crystal Case from Seidio has no belt clip option, you can improvise with the kit below. It puts a removable knob on the back of the case via a very secure adhesive. The base that attaches to the phone case is in the bottom left hand side of the picture below. It's about 1.0"x0.5" and the knob slides and locks in. The knob can be unlocked and removed by pressing your stylus in the middle and sliding it off. I had this kit on my old crystal case and it held perfectly fine for over 2 months. Now I have one on my new case and it feels just as secure. The kit listed below comes with a swivel belt clip as well which is very well designed.

If you do this, I would suggest reinforcing the corners of the Crystal Case with some small, very clear pieces of scotch tape. The Crystal case was not designed for a clip, so I don't know how well it would hold together without the tape. It might hold fine, but I'm not going to risk it. I've done this on mine and you can't even see the tape unless you look very closely.

I received my case on saturday and at first was happy. but by tueday I was ready to ship it back when the teeth on bottom of the stylus side became easily unhooked when I attached my sync cable and from any slight touch from that point forward. Also the back easily scratches from just picking it up and placeing it down on my desk

David, if you are reading this can you verify if this is the old picture? If so, please put a new picture up.
    Hi strohs,

I just checked with my website maintenance person and the picture being displayed is the newer one. Thanks for the nice comments and informative review.

After been tired of dealing with my Innopocket hard case that keeps breaking it belt clip I'm ready for a second protection configuration.

This is what I have in mind. I want to get this new skin from Seido to protect my Treo when it is not in a case.

    http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductImages/cry_700.jpg

Then I want to get the Palm Side case to carry it.

    http://shop.treonauts.com/store_imag.../large/107.jpg

Will this work? Anybody knows if a Treo 700p with a Seido Skin will fit in this Palm side case?

    Treolo,
You might want to consider the crystal or rubberized case with the Seidio side case. It looks just like the Palm one. I got the rubberized case/side case combo and am very pleased with it. I previously used the Covertec side case. The Seidio is slightly larger than the Covertec, but I like the flap better.

    Stroths,

Your Seidio link shows the case for $19.99, but I can't order from there. Though if I go from the main Seidio page it is $24.99. What is the actual price for this case? If it is 24.99 then it turns out to be 30.00 after shipping. That's a bit high for a plastic case.

I found that link the day I wrote this article. Apparently something has changed on their website, so its not working correctly any longer. I would suggest checking with David as I don't work for Seidio and don't know why my link shows a different price. They likely changed the price in the last few days. It does look like the clear is 24.95 now though.

PLease follow up the procedures in the included manual closely to install and remove the case. The inproper way to install or remove the case from Treo 700 may result in the breaking of tab or clip .

    stroths,

thanks for the pics! i think that looks really nice how you did that. so is there any play on the swivel? the seidio swivel has some play in it that i find a bit low quality-ish.

seidio (david): what's the turnaround time on the replacement crystal cases? my impression from the RMA/return page was that once you received the USPS confirmation number, you'd get the replacement asap.
