Buy a cheap USB card reader. The one on your laptop may not work with the newer SD cards. Others with laptops have had similar issues and fixed it this way.

I don't think PalmOS will read NTFS. It should be FAT32

The built in reader in my laptop will read a 2 gb but not the 4 gb. My cheapie USB card reader does a better job.

The reader on my laptop SEEMED to read my 4g card just fine. However, the files would easily corrupt. I returned my first 4g card thinking I had a bad card, but when the 2nd card starting having the same problems, I decided to try using a USB card reader. I bought a 3rd card and used a card reader and all is well.

Moral: Be careful with the laptop built-in readers......while they may seem to work, they could be turning your $100 SD card into a worthless piece of plastic.
