I use verichat on my treo 650 and use AIM. I have vchat set on the sms mode. It has always worked fine until a few weeks ago and here is what has started happening

I am frequently logged into AIM on my laptop and on my Treo, most of the time because i just forget to log off. Its never been a problem, but now it seems if I'm logged into both then the person sending me the message is getting this message (below), I am getting their message but they are getting an instant reply ...Any ideas??????

I still haven't ponied up for an IM app because, as best I can tell from exhaustive searches on here, asking which one is best is like asking Ford or Chevy.

The two that get recommended most often are Verichat and Causerie.

People have problems with both and neither is better than the other as far as I can tell.

I don't currently use IM enough to want to get into spending money on something that won't work (the trials of both went ok, but I've read too many threads on issues apparently with apps I use a lot, Chatter mainly) and compromise the reliability of my Treo with it.

I'm sticking with email and calls for now...

I wonder if it's because VeriChat is being killed by Nokia..

Sucks really bad, because there's no other equivalent IM program, period.

IMO, Causerie comes very, very close.

Causerie sucks donkey balls. I regret ever giving them a penny of my money. They rode on the 700p early adopter hype with the illusion they were quick to respond and work on bugs. Now a mere 6 months later they never respond to support emails or they respond with some canned answer. I reluctantly went back to the lesser of evils, Verichat. I wasted 6 months of Causerie but who cares, at least Verichat works now

I've had good luck with Verichat. My trial of Causerie lasted about 1 day until I realized that (a) the app took nearly 10 sec to start/stop and (b) it would still show my contacts as logged in 24hrs after they had shut off their IM app. The EXACT same issues I had when I trialed it 9 months ago!

khaytsus, is this what you were referring to:

    From PDAapps homepage:

    Nov. 29, 2006

This Product Discontinuance Notification is to inform you of the intention of Nokia to discontinue selling the following products effective immediately:

    VeriChat...

There's a big "VeriChat is no longer for sale" there too.

    linky

Ok - now we REALLY someone like Trillian (or Marc Blank) to create a new IM app. Causerie just doesn't cut it for me...

Oh, ask people about the old Chatter application.. Not Chatter Email.

Speaking of applications that got support dropped like a brick..

Rather than dropping VeriChat completely, what would be involved in a company buying out VeriChat and taking over development?

I know how different things can get going from one programmer/developer to another, but at least this way Nokia would make some $$$ off of it. At least just the Palm app.

As much as it seems that people use/want IM on these things so badly that it's a ready moneymaker if someone was willing to take the plunge and do it right.
