It sounds like you want to try Shimon's 2day app.

    Hi,

Those are great ideas, but would require adding a lot of calendar app code into TAKEphONE. I am not sure I want to make it that big.

    Have you tried 2day ?

    Shimon

    I completely understand.
I was just being greedy and trying to get everything I want on one screen!
I have tried 2day and love it.
I appreciate the effort you put into your software. They are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly, STABLE!

    Thank you

    Shimon,

Would it be too difficult to enable the "Edit i-Bar entry" screen to see applications that are installed on the card? That would make your "Create launcher shortcut" even more useful than it already is.

    Hi,

    1. Dont know how to see/launch applications on the card.
    2. The "Create launcher shortcuts" does not work with applications anyway...

I am not sure I can spare the effort - TAKEphONE is a telephony app, not a file manager/launcher.

    Sorry...

Interesting...I'm able to create one for Directory Assistant, but I think that's only because it existed as an i-Bar entry before I updated to the latest TP version? You're right, I can't create a shortcut for it or any other app if it's a new i-Bar entry.

Good point, but as far as speed dial entries go, it is sort of a launcher. And when you try to set a new speed dial to launch an Application, those on the Card do not show up. I wonder if it's any different if we try to set up speed dial from the built-in app....I'll try.....nope, same.

    I wonder how it works.

I think there's some confusion here. The "create launcher shortcuts" allows you to make an entry in the "Home" screen or launcher that will dial a contact directly. There would be no point in this feature making shortcuts for Applications, since all Applications already exist in the launcher, including those on the sd card. That's the point of the launcher.

Perhaps what some Bill Gamble is talking about is the iBar entry actually launching an application? This can be done by clicking "Application" when setting the entry. Bill, by "directory assistant", do you mean dialing 411, or do you mean launching the Application "Directory Assistant"? If it's the latter, the shortcut for that Application was already there in the Launcher.

I think you're unfamiliar with the concept of the shortcut and its applicability to applications - especially applications on the card. A shortcut created for a card-bound app looks like a RAM-based copy of that app, making it available in situations where card-bound apps normally can't be used.

Read up on ZLauncher or LauncherX to learn about app shortcuts.

Ok, you're right, I wasn't familiar with that. I guess I was the one who was confused. Pretty good idea. But I'm still not putting it together in my head. It seems like ZLauncher and LauncherX replace the built-in Launcher, and they actually make card-bound apps look like internal apps to other apps on the handheld. Wouldn't this include TP? So unless you already have one of these alternative launchers, how would TP be able to "see" those card apps in order to make a shortcut in the built-in launcher? The only way I could see that is if TP actually became another one of those alt launchers, which is asking quite a bit.

But I see your point. is there not another smaller utility that makes card apps visible? Seems like a serious OS shortcoming.

I have been having spurious and somewhat spooky resets. From the reading I've been doing, it seems the best bet I have for an explanation of the errors is Cache. So, I went looking. I happened across an article while looking for utilities to help me pin down the cause ... here ...

    http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/Insi...ache-crash.php

This was a very concise explanation of how to pin down "probables". Following the article's procedure using Palm Internals, I found the following (m68k) "fast callbacks" ...

    Butler (for hede)
    Resco Explorer (for hvch)
    TakePhone (also for hvch)

When I checked for locked DBs, of the three above, only Resco Explorer and Butler were listed as locked. I did see TakePhone listed under protected DBs, though.

Given that you've registered a callback for hvch directly into the TakePhone code, shouldn't it be locked?

Ever since I manually locked TakePhone (Resco Locker, 3 days ago), I have not had a single reset. I was getting them once or twice a day before that. I have now loaded a trial version of "Reset Doctor" and unlocked TakePhone and I'll report back in a few days.

    Treo 700p, Garnet 5.4.9, TAKEphONE v7.00 (077)

P.S. I realize I'm no Palm programmer and don't understand all the variables in this situation ... especially given that I was somewaht surprised to see 2dial locked when it had no "fast" callback registered ... though I suppose you may have locked it in cache for other speed reasons.

    Hi,

TAKEphONE actually locks the part of it's code handling the 'hvch' stuff.
This is why it does not show as "locked".

Regarding 2dial - it uses a technology that requires a much deeper "hooking" into the OS, so it locks itself up.

BTW - what version of TAKEphONE are you using ?
    The latest is at www.shsh.com/beta

    Thanks !

Well that shoots down my best working theory ... curse you!

I'm going to just let Reset Doctor run for a while and we'll see what pops up. But to answer your question version 7.00 (077) ( like my signature said ). For right now, I'm going to leave it at that. I don't want to change it untill I pin down this reset a bit better. I do know about the 080 build and was sorely tempted ... but I need stablility right now.

So far, I got one recording confirming an over-night reset I've been getting ever since the MR. Reset Doctor thinks it was a manual reset ... I think its Verizon's time routine. It always happens between 6 and 7 am, and it always records an error in "Date & Time" (from #*#377) ... but I'll take that up with Hobbyist Software as to why its not recording properly in RD ... and hopefully get Palm and/or Verizon to listen as well (like that's bloody likely).

The ones I'm getting randomly, during heavy usage, record an illegal address error which I've come to find out tends to imply a cache addressing problem. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Predicatable resets once a day while I'm asleep, I can live with. Crashes in the middle of the day are another thing altogether!

Not accurately recording crashes is a known issue with the MR. It has nothing to do with RD.
Visor Deluxe->Visor Edge (Upgraded for $100.00 just by giving them the Serial # of my Visor Deluxe plus I got to keep the Deluxe. Those were the days!)-> Palm M-505->M-515->Tungsten T->Zire 72->Treo 650->->Treo 700P->Treo 755P. Plus various replacements. 8130 Pearl....Sorry

Yeah, I was just over at the Hobbyist forum, and that has become (painfully) obvious.
Looks as though the MR corrupted the HSTraceDatabase for some and not for others, because some are still saying they get crash recordings just fine.

Turns out I wasn't paying enough attention to dates on the #*#377 screen ... I apparently kept seeing the same last error. Odd though, the one showing now is *after* the MR, so it was recording *some* of them. It isn't now unfortunately! Now, I not only have resets, I have a false impression of what is causing them! Oh, lucky me! :/

Beginning to look alot like full reset time. Maybe that will empty the trace DB ... dunno, but it looks like the only shot I have at getting rid of the resets.

    Thanks for the heads-up tho!

Sorry, but what on earth is an "MR"? I'm trying to follow this little threadjack and can't find any reference to something called "MR". It's kind of irritating.
