I use Launcher X but Initiate looks very interesting.

I especially like the built in ability to run apps from an SD Card.

On the other hand I see it wound on the bottom of the six essential apps sticky.

... you did know that LauncherX can run apps from the SD card? Actually even the default Palm launcher does that, but all apps on the SD card are lumped into a single category - not very useful. LauncherX allows you to mix handheld and SD apps within a single category (along with its other features, which I don't use much; actually I prefer FileZ for file management features.) By comparison, ZLauncher has a lot more features per $ but I found it too hard to make it do the simple things I wanted.

Thanks. I do now. Back to the PDF manual to figure it out.

I use Initiate exclusively due to the fact it is stable, intuitive and everything I need it for (which is keeping all my apps within reach). As an added bonus, the voice activation function works great. Also note that the app has a responsive developer.

Initiate is awesome. I've been using it for about 5 months. I recently combined it with Type Write and I can navigate to practically any Treo function with only 1 or 2 keystrokes.

Initiate is stable, powerful, highly customizable and is not a resource hog. What else could you ask for?

I use it. Used to use ZLauncher. I have I8 set up so when I press the home button, it will cycle through my Applications screen, then my contacts screen, then my Blazer bookmarks screen. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but all of them do.

I use I8 exclusively and love it. It, too, runs most of my apps from the SD card.

I have been using I8 for the past year and a half. I personally think it's the best launcher on the market. i have tried many different ones including Launcher X. The developer is very responsive. Highly recommended.

wrspoon, could you elaborate how you use Type Write with Initiate and where you got Type WRite from?

    Thanks,

Type Right http://standalone.com/palmos/type_right/ is a fairly new and low priced launcher from Standalone that allows you to assign an application, phone number or groups of both to any key on your Treo keyboard. Essentially, every key on your treo becomes programmable. Download the trial. I'm sure you'll like it.

After all the positive responses from Initiate users I decided to give it a try.

My first impressions were all positive. In fact I was thinking Initiate could be replacing Launcher X on my Treo. All was going well until I tried to launch Blazer. My Treo just kept resetting every time I tried to access the web with Blazer. I disabled but did not uninstall Launcher X for my initial tests. I will try to Uninstall LX and reinstall Initiate to see if this corrects the problem.

Also can anyone explain to me how to run an app from the SD card? I figured out how to install one or move one to the card. But how do you run one from the card since the icon disappears from the main launcher screen?

    Thanks

    I don't think I could ever leave ZLauncher. It's . . . "myyyyy Precious!"

I use Initiate in combination with 2day, so that when I press any key in 2day, it directs that to Initiate to dial whatever number i want, or open whichever program I want.

The reason I do this is that it allows me more buttons.

I have the home key set to TT6 with LudusP, and can use the datebook key to not only show a today screen, but as a launcher.

To the best of my knowledge none of my Treo crashes are a result of Initiate. I have not tried the voice launch portion of it yet though. It could be the conflicting launchers. Go to Hobbyistsoftware.com and post to their forum. The developer is very responsive.

Nothing beats initiate: no more hunting through menus, just type the name of the app you need. Best launcher, bar none.

just make sure that the view you are using shows apps that are on the sd card (menu/views/define views)
Power user is one view that shows them by default.

Then launch it like you would anything else.

    Enjoy!

OK I've had Initiate up and running smoothly for about a week now.

Uninstalling and then reinstalling seems to have taken care of the crashing problem I was having when trying to open Blazer.

Power search and favorites are great.

Programs that I've moved to the SD card seem to move back to main memory and launch with very little delay when opened.

Haven’t tried the voice launcher feature yet. Not expecting much as I have tried them all and have had no luck with them. The two problems I’ve had with them were a lack of patience on my part to learn them and a noisy work environment just no conducive to their use.

Thanks to all. Especially to confusedvorlon from Hobbyist Software for answering my questions.
