So what are the differences between the 680 and 650? Can anybody break it down into a simple table format?

I'm considering "upgrading" from my 650. From the specs that are floating around, I only see positives so far (more internal memory, no antenna, improved Versamail, improved OS...) what am I missing?

Going off at a slight tangent, will the 650 be withdrawn when the 680 is available?

Good question for the GSM version!! They will no longer be worth buying at $300-$500 if the 680 is truly less or even the same price. People will compare specs and just get the 680. I bet Palm and Cingular will still sell the rest of their inventory, though. Maybe a fire sale?

But Cingular better not even try the $300+ route if the 680 will be around the same price. $50-$100 less perhaps.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Okay, now I haven't looked at the forum much lately and just noticed the 680 thread this week. I looked at some of the posts and links to pics and specs but never saw a specific number for the camera's mp until this. Could this be correct since the 700s are 1.3 mp? I would think the camera would be at least this.

The operating system on the Treo 650 is actually Palm OS version 5.4.8 and not 5.4

So from all of this there is one negative - TALK TIME

Talktime has never been a strong point of the Treo and I charge mine regularly. I'm willing to take the hit for a smaller, lighter treo with more memory and an improved OS & email client. If I can get a free upgrade on my current contract, it's a no-brainer.

Is anyone else considering the same?

Palm actually has a comparative chart themselves with a bit less details but nevertheless...:

    Don't forget wmv/orb streaming support.

    And bundled pTunes.

And individual ringtones, plus acc/amr ringtones.

Also "ignore call with txt" which I understand is big for some people but I never use it.

And you can use the 650/700w/p "fat" battery without the battery cover. Ghetto extended battery.

I asked if one thing was correct and got a smart alec insult answer. I must've deserved that.

    Thanks for the link grenness.

I've spotted the voice memo facility on the 680. That will be a plus for some people. I missed it after changing from a Sony Clie NX75V to a Treo 650.

That's one of the few things that bugs me about my e61 - like the 650, you have the volume controls on the left handside of the phone and below it, you have a "softkey" - except on the e61 it's a hard key! Holding it down will kick off the voice dialing - that's fine. However a single press will kick off the voice recorder - and because you cannot change it, you end up with lots and lots of short bits of nonsense.

I was talking to a guy to nokia the other day and thankfully he said that they will change this on future editions.

From Palm specs, T680 has 128 MB memory, and T650 has 64 MB.
Theoretically this should give improved performance... anyone observe this ?

As a current T650 owner, I don't think an upgrade is worth it; however the T680 is a good entry-level PDA/smartphone... am seeing specials at around $75 with new line activation.

Personally, I'll wait on the T750 - full PDA phone with beter camera and 3G.
