    According to http://canuck-pda.ca/2006/10/anonymous-tip.html

I've just recieved an email from a reliable source, who wishes to remain nameless. He told me that the Treo 680 will be coming to Canada! He also told me to expect the Treo 680 to debut in the $450-$500 USD range (for unlocked).

Personally, I think it's about time another Treo is going to coming to Canada (currently the only Treo for sale over here is the Treo 650). Also, if the price range is right, it will be far more expensive than the ~$300 USD price that some people had been speculating.

It shouldn't be too long before the truth about the carriers and price of the Treo 680 are revealed officially, so we should know pretty so how valid this information is...

Any other info about possible price?

No inside info here, just expectations and hopes:

    Expectation
    W/ Contract (Cingular, I'm sure): US$199
    W/OUT Contract, Unlocked: US$399

    Hope
    W/ Contract: US$149
    W/OUT Contract, Unlocked: US$299
...Plus price drops within 6 months and bigger discounts from 3rd party resellers.

    I am guessing $199 w contract and $299 without.

It would give it more room to drop in price. If people remember. The 700w and 700p got their first price drop alot sooner than the 650.

I'm guessing Amazon will have the 680 for free with new service 3-6months after initial release on Cingular.

Whatever it is, be assured that it will be a lot more in the UK...a lot more than can be justified by taxes and import duty too.

For example, the 650 is currently on sale unlocked from Palm for GBP399, which is about $750 at current exchange rates.

I saw a pre-order one from some site in Zwitserland for 500,- Euro. That is 100,- Euro cheaper then the 750.....

I thought that the 650 was no longer on sale in Europe because it does not match recycling laws?

It cannot be imported any longer; there is existing inventory for sale.

Doesn't make sense to me if those are USD values. Sounds closer to what the CAD values would be, and seems pretty much on the ball there, as our smartphones are more expensive than in the US.

    Thank God for eBay.

We’ve gotten word from a tipster that the reason that Palm didn’t announce any carrier availability during their Treo 680 announcement was because they’re still trying to pound out the specifics. All four major carriers - Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint - are driving a hard bargain.

One method of deployment possible is with Cingular, offering their 680 for free, but forcing the customer to sign up for a $30 internet plan. What’s the catch? The customer can’t change or remove that $30 internet plan for the entire 2-year contract period. Doing so would incur the wrath of Cingular in the form of fees and a dog going over to chew on your tender areas. If you do the math, $30 for two years makes you…taking the integral…$720 poorer.

Of course this is just a possible launch plan. Another could be a partner with T-Mobile to offer the same thing. Except T-Mobile really wants Palm to cough up a Treo with WiFi so T-Mobile can sell their hotspot plans.

This post is bogus....680 will only work on Cingular and Tmobile networks. Not sure how Verizon and Sprint are driving a hard bargain when the phone doesn't even work on their networks.
