Just a follow up to the "when are we getting our new firmware" thread....

So lets see, since the 700p was released, Palm has brought 2 new phones to the market and are on their way to a third with the 680. All the while, we are stuck with ever slowing performance (unless you like doing monthly hard resets), lag between apps that would make a Treo 600 user cringe, SMS lockups (along with other crashes doing just about anything), poor BT performance and the list goes on. I still love my 700p, but I would love to hear from Palm just a hint about when we can expect our firmware update (if one is even in the works)!

Isn't this supposed to be Palm's flagship product?

Thank you!!!! I'm so glad that you started this awesome thread otherwise, I would have had to do it!

I'm goin' bananas over here waiting for this update. Today would have been a fantastic time to unveil it but once again, Palm seems to be forgetting about us...and no, as much as I'm diggin' Google Maps on my 700P, it does not make me less frusturated with our lack of a frimware update.

I am looking at the 680 as a good thing for us 700p owners. Since its GSM, it will have a larger userbase than us CDMA users. If the 680 suffers from the same lag as the 700p, then its more likely to get fixed and thus the 700p will get its fix.

Then again, if it has no lag, I will be VERY pissed.

I'd like to see a firmware update with the new features, but the new phones aren't even HSDPA, I'll stick with my 700p. Palm, YOU SUCK!

I've come to the conclusion that the 700p does NOTHING well. lots of things almost, but nothing excellent.

I hate to say it, but that is the same reason I ended up with a wx. differences aside, in my experience, the wx has been a thousand times more stable.

like I said, no firmware update for the treo 700p!

hey, does the wx lag when going from areas of poor coverage to good coverage? I'm thinking of replacing my 700p...

I wish they would just fix the bluetooth problems. I can live with everything else.

4 months! It did not take anywhere near that long for them to make the 650p usable. And what is up with snappermail and Zlauncher still not having official updates that improve compatability after all this time. Those apps used to be incrementally updated every several weeks. It's like they're all working together to make the 700p as annoying as possible.

I had wondered about that. /tin foil hat on/ the blazer - ptunes integration is worse than 650, maybe their just making palm os unbearable. sounds like ppl are jumping to WM Treos.

lol, no. there is no lag that is caused by low or no signal.

otoh, most Palm users consider all of WM5 to lag , eh at least it doesn't crash and is stable as a rock.

Tell that to all of the 6700 owners who have to reset their devices every day or two to "keep them fresh."

Alright, I might be going out on a limb here...

But do we 700p owners have the legal leverage to organize a class action suit here? I'm loosing hope that a firmware update will ever happen, and we certainly have been sold a buggy product. I upgraded from a 600 to a 700 and can't believe all the issues I'm having.

No better place to start some class action commotion than on TreoCentral...

Of course, the question would be "who do we sue, Palm or Sprint/Verizon?"

Wow, and I thought I was mad!

I think it would be more productive if the Treocentral staff could just ask Palm about a 700p firmware update. They have a relationship with Palm so I don't see any reason why they could not just ask them. It could not hurt and I don't see what the big deal would be if Palm were to state that a firmware update would be available by end of year, or whatever their worse case scenario is. Or at least assure us that we haven't been abandoned and they are at least throwing resources into it.

So what do you think Treocentral guys?

I'm down for a class action lawsuit against Palm. If that will spur a firmware release to fix the bugs, then hey why not. I'll even chip in some cash for the ensuing legal fees.

If you folks are serious about a class action lawsuit, I can contact a lawyer friend of mine. He specializes in labor law, however he'll definitely know where to point me.

If you're truly interested in this, please e-mail me directly. If enough folks respond, I'll look into the appropriate legal action.
