Can these cards be used on the 650 with the standard roms, or is there a hack that needs to be done? I have heard it both ways, and am just curious before spending the money for a card. I have a couple of 2gb cards I've been using with no problems.

You'll need to do a custom rom to use a 4gb card. You just need to replace the FAT16 with the FAT32... I think they were working on a program to just replace that but I don't know if they finished it. But, with mmastrac's ROMtool custom rom's are unbelievably easy.

You actually replace the FATFS with FAT32. I did it using ROMtool and it was simple and then the 4G cards are usable.

Yes, quite easy really. A big thanks to those programmers.

There is a thread on which 4gb cards work and which don't. Make sure you look for it.
