I realize this new PRL update is supposed to be an update for the whole US, but it also seems areas where changes are appropriate *to the user* seem to be given the automatic update. Fact or mere coincidence? Just curious. I ask this because I never got updates for anything prior to xxx4 while many threads were going on the xx2 and xx3 updates.

Well I'm stuck on 20221 and Sprint cust service is clueless... Is there any way to download this update and hotsync it?

When you call tech support demand to speak to a level 2 tech with Sprint and they should be able to get you straightened out. Most of the reg. CS reps dont have a clue.

Did you try a reset and then check your update status or try a reset and call CS and have them flag you again and after they flag you dial *2 and the rest takes care of itself usually.

Call *2 say specialist and then choose a prompt any prompt. Then request the PRL update. If they are being special then hang up and try again.

after several days of having 20224 PRL, there is definitely an increase in battery life. I did notice that ptunes is choppier than ever when I'm surfing at the same time. Was not like that before.

I may be dillusional, but I think I am also noticing an increase in battery life. To aid battery life...I already have Location turned off, and utilize BrightCam. Keep the updates comming as far as I am concerned. Sprint's 700 seems to be worse with battery drainage in comparison to how the device manages the network.

Ok 96% left in 7 hours. Only did 1 text. IR on. Definitely an increase.

Same here regarding battery life. My guess is the device is now aware of new towers Sprint is using and isn't constantly seeking in-network towers out as frequently. Also, turn off your infrared in prefs (prefs --> power --> beam receive) and turn off "get date & time from mobile network." Finally, I use a program to turn off the keyboard backlight when I don't need it. Battery goes a lot farther this way. A lot farther.

I read this thread and hit *2 on my phone then said PRL update. I got a lady and she transferred me to tech support then he flagged my account and said it should be available once we hung up. I called *2 and there was the prompt. The PRL update was successful. Now to test out the battery life

Sorry to brag about this update but my phone has been off the charger for 33 hours and I'm only down to 71% with a few calls and about 5 min of internet use. This is on my old 650 battery too.

Well consider yourself lucky because this isn't typical. Besides PRL's have nothing to do with firmware updates. This is what we will need to improve battery performance for the vast majority of 700p owners.

Each time I have gotten the update (23 and 24) I attempted to get it indoors with 5 bars. No luck, even after having my account flagged.

As soon as I went outside to take my dog for a walk and dialed *2 - bingo with 3 bars. I know it has something to do with my dog, I just know it.

Walk your dog, or your neighbors if you don't have one. If you don't have a neighbor you can always come over and walk my dog.

This is reminiscent of the methods I employ.

Where are you located if I may ask? I have noticed an improvement too, but I already have been getting two and half days out of my device.

After a couple tries, I was able to do the update successfully. Here's what I did:

I dialed *2 and ended up speaking with a Sprint rep. Told the rep I want to do a PRL update. The rep set up the update so that after I hung up, to re-dial *2 and the update would automatically occur. Sure enough, dialing *2 did automatically start the process, and I got a screen message that read "SPL Unlocked..." and "OTA Service Provisioning/Programming Successful!". Now my PRL Rev reads 20224. Previously it was 20221. Immediately after the update, my Treo had a problem whereby the Phone was turning off by itself. After doing a soft reset, the problem disappeared, and now the phone appears to work okay again.

I seem to recall doing a similar PRL update on my previous Treo 650 model, but don't recall the update doing much in terms of improvement. I'll have to see if this new update today for the 700p does anything particularly special, but I'm not holding my breath. --Casey
