    Announced on September 12:
    Garmin Mobile 10 for $199.
    Garmin Mobile 20 for $299.

Both have the new Mobile XT software for Palm OS (replaces Que) that gives you the 3D view.

I will be getting the Mobile 10 because it can be more easily be used outside of the car and includes Windows software (nRoute) as well. All for $199! All I will need extra is a larger SD card and a car mount (already have car charger).

    Both available in November.

Interesting. I just bought the GPS 10 and was pretty happy with it. I already have the map data base, I don't particularly feel the need to pay again to upgrade to the better GPS receiver, but the new software with the 3D would be nice - I wonder if it will work in place of Que with the older GPS 10 receiver?

Yeah... I was thinking the same thing when I saw this. Hmmm... Anyone want to try calling Garmin to find out?

WooHooo! I've been holding off buying a GPS for my 700p, and now it's finally here! Sirf III with Garmin software. I hope it's worth the wait.

Looking at the manual for the Mobile XT software, it seems to be mostly the same as the current Que software, with a user interface that allows easier thumbscreen (i.e., non-stylus, non keyboard) usage and it uses terms more familiar to the non-specialist (e.g. the word "waypoints" is nowhere to be seen, now they're called "My Locations.") There are a few new goodies however, all of which are features I've been wanting:

    1. As previously indicated, 3D views
    2. Integration with contacts database
    3. Create Routes with starting location other than your current location
    4. Record Tracks

And one goodie I hadn't thought of, but might be useful: "Avoid" box for routes (e.g. stay out of construction area, stadium crowd letting out, or rough neighborhood).

Remaining issue in my mind is, CAN YOU SYNC TRACKS, ROUTES AND WAYPOINTS TO/FROM YOUR PC TO USE WITH MAPSOURCE??? (Major irritant for me with Que...)

I called Garmin.... They said a beta version of the software will be on the web-site when the Palm version is ready.

They also said it should work with the regular GPS 10.

That would be awesome, but very un-characteristic of Garmin to offer something that new customers can have to their existing customers without requiring the existing customers to buy something new, and thus become "new" customers also...

True...but if you look at their web-site. They already have the XT version of their software available for download for GPS 10 users on PocketPC platform.

True! Can anyone confirm that Mobile XT works decently on a 700w or wx?

When I registered my Palm os GPS-10 I opted to be informed of any updates, so I hope they email me when the new Palm beta is available
    Thought of the day :
No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work anyway

I see the Pocket pc version 3,78 beta has been pulled from the GPS-10 page, perhaps they are about to release the full version.

November is almost here. I was thinking I might sit it out for a bit and wait for others to find the white screen of death issues etc. However, I don't think I'll be able to wait.
