Pretty sure it has to do with the card size.
You may be right, but when I was using FAT16 I had it completely full of MP3's (2 GB worth) and neither Windows, the treo or pTunes ever gave me any problems.

    Thanks for the great write-ups!!!

I just bought an A-Data 4GB off ebay and can't wait to start filling it up with all the cool stuff I want on my 650!

I wonder if I should also get a Transcend 4GB for backups, or just simply backup the A-Data to my pc periodically.

Question for you supersocialist - what launcher do you use? Have you deleted the launcher that came with your Treo with a custom ROM?
Unlocked Rogers GSM Treo 650, PalmOS V5.40017, Firmware: 01.71, Software: Treo650-1.20-ENA
Modded and hacked! Custom ROM - removed RealPlayer, Todo, Tasks, Versamail, Tips, World Clock, Launcher. Added support for FAT32 SD cards.
Software: PDAbs, Backup.NET, Uninstall Manager, Card Reader, FileZ, Power RUN, DateBk5, DocumentsToGo, HandZipper, Chatter, TakePhone, Technician, Voice Dial, TCPMP, SpashPhoto, Insaniquarium, Memory Master, Sol Free, Palma Sutra

I did the same with my Transcend4gb 150.
After reformatting to 32K its speed (while hotsyncing!!) increased dramatically.

Yeah. I have a 60x 2GB card that was slow as a rock (one of those up-hill moving rocks) until I formatted it at 16k. Now it's a rocket. I can't wait to see what a 150x card will do!

quick question i just recently today ROM hacked my treo 650 to read the 4GB SD (150X pny but it is slow!)
i compare it to my 1GB PNY SD card. the file i am using is SUPERTROOPERS.mpeg
(its a movie) and i am running it on TCPMP (media player) and the 1GB plays the movies fine you can "seek" throught the movie but with my 4GB card the movie freezes when i try to "seek" and then i have to reset..????

i did format the card FAT32.prc with the rom hack.
maybe there are some other things i can do to make this card faster?!?!?!

    please help

    Thanks
    Alex

32k default allocation is ideal for a 4 gig Fat32 card. However, the camera app hangs when you try to save a video file with more than 3 minutes. The workaround is to format the card with 8192 or 8k. Speed is better than the standard 4k. I tried 16k but it cause the camera app to reset. But if you're not into video, go for 32k.

If you're formatting to 8k, make sure you use quick format. Not doing so causes bad sectors to appear. I dont know why but this has been discussed on another thread.
