Using VersaMail with my MacBook Pro, Treo 650 and an Exchange server has been frustrating to say the least. Syncing the calendars does not work for "sh@t". Getting mail and syncing addresses is possible, but the lack of calendar syncing sucked. I even had Palm support tell me the "workaround" was to install the 2 year old version of Versamail. Great. That one just duplicates the calendar events ad nauseum... I'll live without the calendar/exchage syncing.

But WAIT! VersaMail 3.5 released last month (without ANY notification) has got to solve the problem! Yeah right.... I installed it and syncing the mail on my .mac IMAP account worked flawlessly. On the other hand, syncig the calendar AND the mail with the Exchange server is now disabled!

POS... Why can’t anything Palm related be simple?

Upon installation of Versamail 3.5 and the initial attempt at synching.... I received the warning below:

    “Initial Sync

Events and Contacts on your device will be added to the server when you sync. The first sync removes duplicates and takes longer then subsequent syncs.
Do you want to sync now?”

Upon pressing the “yes” button, I receive an Error message as follows:

“There was a problem syncing messages. SSL Error: No trusted root Update certificate authority list.”

Pressing the “Details” button reveals another Error Message:

    AirSAMStateMachine.c 53014721

I tried to get Palm/Verizon to let me upgrade to the 700p as the 650 does not perform as advertised. No such luck. Not cost effective for them to sell units that do what they are supposed to do.

The solution is simple: Chattermail. Versamail is just like Realplayer, dead weight and poor use of ROM space.

    First of all,

VersaMail 3.0 use SSL connection with Exchange server. But version 3.5 not.. Edit your accout and go to Advanced, uncheck SSL (port 443 turn to 80).

    Sync again.

The error "SSL Error: No trusted root Update certificate authority list." means the certificate on your SERVER is not signed by a known trusted root on the device's Certificate Authority list. You need to contact your system admin to get a valid signed certificate on your server, or disable SSL.

Yeah, the error is obvious; SSL cert isn't kosher. Sheesh.

Versamail used to be pretty flaky on the 650. Since I have gone to the 700p it has been completely stable. No resets, no nothing.

Where do I get Versamail 3.5? I just want it to work with AOL email and all previous versions of Versamail have failed miserably.

    PalmGear.com or Palm store. I think it's $10.

It does come on the Treo.. The old version. I think the 700P has the 3.5 version.

So they're charging for the upgrade.. Why? I dunno, I don't keep up as I don't use VersaMail personally.

You're right. I was just curious. I've been running Chatter and it works flawlessly. Versamail is the biggest POS I've ever seen on my Treo and I've seen a lot of apps.

Geez. I wish I had done some reading before buying the 3.5 upgrade to Versamail and installing it.

I had over the air sync to my Exchange Server with Versamail 3.0 and we used a self-signed SSL certificate on the server.

Now with Versamail 3.5 it is apparently mandatory to buy a commercial SSL certificate from one of the vendors listed by Palm. Or go without SSL. See post 5 above for this technical information and many thanks for this.

What a pain. Now Versamail won't talk to my Exchange Server at all.

But the answer is not in the problem. The answer is in the answer.

    Here's my solution:

    1. I immediately downloaded the Chatter trial of the Exchange plugin and installed it. A few minutes of dinking around and it works. Email only but . . . . The $60 solution is good, and I have regular Chatter+ installed on my wife's Treo already (used to be mine) and so I know Chatter and like it.

    2. September 12, 2006 presumably brings us good news from Palm about a new GSM Treo. Vodaphone, sure, but I'm hoping for an unlocked version too to use on T-Mobile.

    3. I'll think about this SSL Certificate thing for Versamail 3.5 and decide what to do. If I can find a really cheap one that Palm likes for Versamail, then I'll probably buy it.

Has anyone bought an SSL certificate on the Palm list? Any really cheap ones available?

Man oh man. Palm should really outsource all of its PalmOS email functionality to Marc. He'd get it done right and vastly improve the value of the PalmOS devices in the process. No gotchas. Simple instructions. Good user interface. Things just work. Thanks, Marc.

tasty - Thanks! Palm knows all about me and ChatterEmail, as it turns out. Not sure what they'll do about it, though.

I got CalenderLib-P1CL is a old version when I installed 3.5 on my VZW 650. I grabbed the Versamail from the 700p CD. Does anyone know if I purchase it for $10.00 if it'll have the new CalenderLib-P1CL 1.1 that it says I need?
  18. #18
Well that was $10 wasted out of my beer fund this week. still the same error about Syncing events. CalenderLib-P1CL is an older version. Please update to at least version 1.01

Quick answer: Quit whining. Do it right. Google "ssl certs cheap".

If you're not an admin on that box. Show 'em the $20 godaddy link. If they won't do ssl only (encrypted https only) then they don't deserve to admin exchange. (yes, show him this email...I don't think you could find a decent admin against ssl certs for exchange...specially for $20)

    Pre-solved 4 those who can't/don't google:

Don't turn off ssl. Install $20/yr official cert ($17.99/yr for 2). Done. No more problems.

    Here's the link. https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/ssl/s...?se=%2B&ci=418

He doesn't know how to install cert? https://certificates.starfieldtech.com/IIS6.go

    Good idea!

They have done this sort of outsourcing in the past. The original Datebook was written by CESD (who writes datebk6).
