    Having upgraded from a Kyocera 7135 to a 700P ...

I am trying to determine what "Location On" "911 Only" does.

I understand the idea behind determining the location of a phone when 911 is called. So, what does "Location On" do?

I think the location on is used for software such as "traffic" and takes up more battery, the 911 setting is only used for emergency location info when you call 911.

    I'm just guessing though, I'm not 100%

I'm more interested in the difference3 between voice privacy on or off and whatg exactly that does...

Location On is to allow apps to use the location feature to determine a rough location so they can show you what restaurants are close, etc. You can turn that off so only 911 has access to it.

According to p. 77 of the VZW 700p manual, it enables voice encryption if that feature is supported by the network in your area.

Thanks, I understood that much, I guess I should have clarified that I was interested in how this may affect battery/reception when on or off.

Which apps use the "Location On" feature I know for sure OnDemand and TreoTraffic don't use it.

It's for network based services, not applications on the phone. I've never personally experienced any difference in battery life when having it on vs. off.

Location ON allows the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network to determine
your longitude and latitude position at any time in order to provide
location-specific services. 911 Only restricts your location information to
    emergency services only.
Your device is equipped with a location feature for use in connection
with location-based services that may be available in the future.
Currently the location information is used to help identify your
longitude and latitude position during an emergency call in areas where
E-911 service is available. For your safety, your location information will
always be provided during a 911 emergency call regardless of whether
    you select this setting.
