I installed a new hard drive, reinstalled all programs (XP Pro), etc, and reinstalled the Palm CD. I chose the Outlook sync. Everything synced over fine except my contacts. I even tried to have the handheld overwrite the desktop to no avail. At this point, I have my 200+ contacts trapped on my 700p with no way to get back to my desktop, and the desktop is where I really need them. Any help would be appreciated from someone who has dealt with this.

There's an error? Let's see your Hotsync log.

i suggest switching over to palm desktop to sync to determine if this was something to do with outlook or the data on treo. pls give me an update...
  6. #6
    FYI..
if outlook has detected a corrupted record on the device, this will stop synchronizing the whole conduit. try to switch to palm desktop coz it will give you the complete hotsync log errors.it will also allow you to backup your contacts on palm desktop and filter any corrupted records.
then, you need to perform a hard reset on the treo and sync again with palm desktop to get your data. switch back to outlook and sync again. now you have a clean data!(note: make sure to check your conduit setup first before performing hotsync)

no need for you to reinstall your applications after the hard reset. before you sync back, just make sure that the backup conduit on the hotsync manager was set to desktop overwrites handheld..

Contacts is the only problem I have. Everything else sync fine (as you can see from the snippets). I'm with SprintPCS.

if the data is on your treo, u have to follow the fix that i wrote previously. however if the data is on outlook, follow these steps from palm knowledge base:

    Experiment in batches
    All devices

This solution is time-consuming; we recommend trying the solutions above before resorting to this method. Here, we move all items to a new folder, and manually move them back in small batches. This pinpoints the exact item causing the error.

First, create a new folder in Outlook that contains the type of item giving you trouble:

In Outlook, right-click on any folder in the left navbar.
From the popup menu that appears, select New Folder.
In the Create New Folder window, give the folder a name.
From the pulldown menu, select the type of item that appeared in the HotSync log. For example, if the HotSync log said "Outlook Calendar synchronization failed," select Calendar Items.
In the folder list, select a location for the new folder to reside. For the purposes of this procedure, it doesn't matter where you locate this folder, as long as you remember where it is.
When finished, click OK to close the Create New Folder window.
Next, move all items into the new folder:

In Outlook open the function that appeared in the HotSync log error. For example, if the HotSync log said "Outlook Calendar synchronization failed," open the Calendar.
You may wish to switch to a List View in Outlook to perform the next steps.
Depending on which type of item is giving you trouble:
Calendar: From the View menu, select Arrange By, then Current View, then By Category. This results in a list view of all Calendar events.
Tasks: From the View menu, select Arrange By, then Current View, then Simple List. You'll see a list view of all Tasks.
Contacts: From the View menu, select Arrange By, then Current View, then By Category. You'll see a simple list of your Contacts in a table, divided by the Category to which they belong.
Memos: From the View menu, select Arrange By, then Categories. You'll see a listing of all your Memos in a simple table.
Select all Calendar, Tasks, Contacts or Memos items.
Drag and drop these items to the new folder you created above.
    Now, experiment:

Open the new folder you created.
Drag a small number of items back to the original folder. For example, if you moved all your Calendar events to a new folder, select 10-15 events from the new folder and drag them into the Calendar folder in the left navbar of Outlook.
    Perform a HotSync operation.
    Does the error appear?
No: Repeat the process: drag 10-15 items from the new folder into the original folder and perform a HotSync operation until the error appears.
Yes: You've found it! The batch of items you just moved contains the corrupted item. Move the last 10-15 items back to the new folder. Then move one of these items at a time to the original folder, and perform a HotSync operation. When the error re-appears, you know the item you just moved is the culprit. Delete this item (be sure to write down its details if you want to recreate it manually in Outlook).

I tried to change the conduit to sync with my Palm Desktop. However, it seems to hang -- Stay at the syncing state for Contacts for more than 2 hours. I only have about 300+ contacts (less than 500 for sure) with multiple Categories.

My contacts outlook is empty. There are no contacts on it.

    Please help.

Wooo....Hoo.... You saved me hour of headache. Thank you thank you so much.

I'm not sure that you are affliated with Palm in anyway, but this is definitely great. I hope that Sprint Tech can read this and add to their support manual.

Thank you again. Hopefully, this will help other people too.

Here is what worked for me.

    My errors:

    Outlook Contacts
    OLERR:02-0016
    OLERR:02-000D
    OLERR:0D-000C
    OLERR:02-0018
    OLERR:0D-0004
    OLERR:0D-0001

My solution for (Use caution) Outlook 2003:

Set conduit to Handheld wins>Sync(All contacts deleted!)>set conduit to sync>Sync(All contacts deleted from Handheld>Went to 'Deleted Items' folder>Selected all contacts in 'Deleted Items' folder>Moved all selected contacts to "Contacts' folder>Set conduit to Sync>Sync. Viola all contacts back in working order.

Here is another problem you folks might have. This is for an extra 'Contact:' folder in your address book.

    1) Set PC's Hotsync Custom to Outlook overwrites Handheld.

    2) Sync.

    3) Set PC's Hotsync Custom to Synchronize Files.

    4) You're fixed.

I have a Treo 680, but I'm in the process of migrating to the HTC Mogul. The process for doing that is to Hotsync to Outlook (which I would not otherwise use) then Activesync Outlook to the Mogul. Everything worked fine except for Contacts, which generated the following message:

    Outlook Contacts
    OLERR:02-0016
    OLERR:02-000D
    OLERR:0D-000C
    OLERR:02-0018
    OLERR:0D-0044
    OLERR:0D-0004
    OLERR:0D-0001
    - HH overwrite Desktop Sync
    Outlook Contacts synchronization failed

    OLERR:15-0002
    OLERR:01-0001

This is almost exactly what huytrang90 posted two years ago, with the exception of mine having an extra line, "OLERR:0D-0044".

I have tried the following methods, as documented in this thread:
    1. Hard-reset Palm, restored all data from BackupMan (still didn't work).
    2. Hard-reset Palm, restored all data from Palm Desktop, then switched conduits to Outlook, then Hotsynced again (didn't work)
    3. Rukia's July 2006 suggestion is not applicable, since I have no contacts in Outlook.
    4. Installed and ran dbscan as Bill Gamble suggested that same month. It didn't detect any corrupted entries. (Syncing with outlook still didn't work)
    5. NRG's August 2006 suggestion relies on Outlook having contacts thus does not apply.
    6. smcracraft's July 2007 I did not try since it's obvious it would simply delete all the contacts from my Treo.

I am about to systematically delete files from my addressbook one letter at a time and try hotsyncing till I figure out which one is the problem, but this is painfully labor-intensive, so if there are any other suggestions I'd appreciate it.
