Are there any? I was thinking this platform is ideal for some of the earlier multiplayer games, like chess, battleship, civilization and empire.

What else, possibly RTS, and games like Diablo.

Even might be ready to run something like Ultima Online, but you'd need an SD card..

    Could we handle multiplayer DOOM?

I was just thinking about EVDO, and what might be some cool applications for it.

    Thoughts?

For what it's worth, Realdice seems to have some pretty decent multiplayer games (if you like the particular games they carry).

Here ya go: http://www.metaviewsoft.de/en/index.html They have Doom, Hexen, Heretic, Quake and DukeNukem. At least some of them now support multiplayer via TCP/IP, etc. I've never tried playing multiplayer, so I don't know if it works, but the standalone games are GREAT and they're FREE!!!!! You just need the old game files.

check out dqsoft.com (dreamquest software). They have card games that can be played on treos (on their own game site) or any other platform (similar to microsofts zone).

Card games seem the simplest to implement on a treo and seem ideally suited (as people already like playing solitaire). People could play spades, bridge, etc sitting in their chair in their living room with multiplayer card games.

Diablo type games or Warcraft type games would be adaptable to a treo platform, however you would drastically have to reduce the complexity. Such as controlling 3 characters (a worker, a hero, or another hero/standard fighter). It would work well on a treo because spells could be mapped to a treo keyboard. I've toyed with this idea because of the success of RTS games. However a World of Warcraft game online seems ideally suited to a treo. I character that you level up and can play in 5 min to 8 hour increments.

However the difficulty of doing this on the Palm OS is that the software would tend to "break" with each new device because of the changes Palm makes. Thus there is an advantage to doing these on WM devices becuase of their uniformity across manufacturers.

Yeah but this is the case with every new microsoft release, the difference being Palm ties software updates with hardware updates...

I want the World of Warcraft type game (MMORPG).. What do we need to get started?

I tested this out the other day, and It seems to work perfectly for me. I also have chatter running in the background (set up for instant push) and didn't have an issue. What particular issue did you see, and have you updated to the latest version of Hold'em?

NesEm supports 2 player NES games via bluetooth. I haven't tried this but NesEm is a really polished program and I would expect the 2 player mode to work flawlessly.

I just downloaded and setup ZQuake. I keep running into an out of memory issue. Quake is trying to grab a little over 5.5 MB. Clearly there are things being loaded into the dynamic heap. How can I find out what?

Once I get this issue resolved. I want to try the networked mode.. Anyone game to give it a test?

I got the old game files here:

Yup, me, too. I had purchased UDMH for my 650 to play these games because there was a memory problem. Given the extra memory on the 700P I did not expect to have this problem on my 700P. So, I loaded UDMH onto my memory card and ran it along with ZQuake which solved the problem. ZHeretic and Duke didn't seem to need it. Of all of those games, ZQuake is the only one that has a bit jerky motion. I imagine overclocking for this game would solve that problem. So, you need to at least get UDMH to play Zquake. You can get UDMH Here: http://www.palmpowerups.com/

UDMH did the trick. Now for the next step, multiplayer. Anyone got this working yet. (The release notes say that TCPIP networking support should work.)

Any suggestions on setting up controls? I am having a hard time transitioning from mouse based FPS controls to the Treo controls. (I dare not play anyone who isn't using a Treo)

Based on what I've seen with Quake, I'm very excited about the future of native Treo FPS and MMORPG.. (Games designed to be run on the Treo 700p, using a small screen, tiny keyboard and or stylus).

Although this currently isn't supported on the Treo, it looks like this is what we are looking for.

Brandorr: you could use the stylus in all my 3D ports to move the view (Ctrls: Stylus (-))
Also the latest versions do have a kind of default key-layout which might be a good starter for you. If you have an older version installed, I recommend to delete it using the standard launcher (you might need to copy the app to the main memory before) to remove the preference entries for the game. When you now restart it you will have the default ctrls settings. Check them, they should work quite fine. I'm playing Duke3D on my Treo quite often when I have some 10 minutes to waste. It's a lot of fun. Don't forget to enable "rumble" :-)

About Age Of Fantasy: Well, write them an email, ask for a Palm OS port. Wouldn't be that hard I guess, but it needs the source code.
