I dropped my 650 a few days ago... it bounced a few times Now, it prompts me with the System Lockout screen.

Long ago, I set a password with a cryptic hint which means nothing to me now. Since I never activated the lockout, I am surprised dropping the phone did it.

Sprint advised me to enter the lat four digits of my SS#, the last four digits of my tel #, 0000, 1234--all to no avail. After an hour at the Sprint store today, the tech says I'll need to hard reset and lose my data.

After some searching, I learned that Palm corrected its backdoor access (with Palm Debug, console window, delete private records, etc.) with v. 4.0. I wonder if there is ANY way to avoid a hard reset? Any hackers out there willing to help a stupid *****?

It's an asked before question with an answered before answer - nope, none at all. Drinking a lot of coffee or whatever might trigger a brain cell or two, or maybe some time with a pad of paper and a hammer pouding on your head might prompt something. Probably not though, I was there with a similar situation fifteen years ago - I now write down everything and place it somewhere for looking at sometime. When is sometime and where was somwhere? Darn!

There's no way to avoid a hard reset, but if you've been syncing to your desktop, you just have to hotsync to recover your data. No password will be set on your Treo after syncing, so you'll need to think of a new (and hopefully easier to remember) password for future use.
