Since this has morphed into the FontSmoother thread here's some interesting behavior.

I downloaded some of the fonts posted in this thread just to see what they looked like. While assigning them to the built-in Calendar app I noticed that some of them resulted in an 8-10 second delay after launching the Calendar app before any button presses or taps were processed. The buttons/taps were queued and took effect after the delay. Some fonts showed this behavior and others did not.

    Slow start Calendar Fonts:
    Calibri 11pt, Calibri 12pt, Rockwell 10pt, Tahoma 10pt, Tahoma 11pt, Tahoma 12pt

    Normal start Calendar Fonts:
    Tahoma 8pt, Tahoma 7pt, Calibri 10pt, Comic Sans MS 6pt, Papyrus 8pt

    Regards,
    ERic

I've had two or three reports of this sort of thing, but have not been able to duplicate them. It could have something to do with how many appointments you have. If you have nothing deeply confidential in the opening screen of the Calendar app, could you send me a screenshot of it when it is misbehaving?

Could you also email me one of the Tahoma fonts that causes the problem? (I expect I still won't be able to duplicate it... That's how these things go.)

    Thanks!

Are you using the YAHM version (2.3.6) included with FS?

Next exercise. Please see if you have this problem switching between fonts of the same size, e.g., System and Utopia 18.

    Thanks!

I thought I had it made with Fonts4OS5 and Handera 18 Bold fonts. I have been humbled. Assuming I can read the damn text, I'm going to use some of these 7-8 pt fonts.

Curiously enough, the FontSmoother homepage at http://tinyurl.com/lre9l looks horrible with FS activated on Tahoma-7pt. :>

It only wants to reset when I change the "Web" program font to anything other than Tahoma 7pt.

The FontSmoother app shows that I have v1.7.3 installed.

However, the PRC in the ZIP achive that I downloaded from FontSmoother website is dated 2006-04-20, which corresponds with the published release date for 1.7.5.

I created my own Tahoma 7 and 8 pt fonts from my XP box.

Could you try http://prussfamily.us/FontSmootherTest3.zip ? (The same goes for people who are reporting crashes.)

    Thanks!

Yes, the 2.3.6 that is included with FontSmoother is the most reliable version of YAHM. Newer versions are less reliable in my experience.

    Alex,

Check your inbox for full debug log and snapshots, but for the benefit of other interested parties I think the delay is related to carriage-return characters in the appointments, i.e. multi-line appointments. I tried up to five single line appointments and didn't have delay issues. But with enough multi-line appointments I was able to see the delay (anywhere from 5-12 seconds) with any font I tested. I retried all the ones I'd previously posted as "normal" would now show a delay.

I had the same reset problem. I didn't want to use 7pt because it is too small for my tastes so just reinstalled and used 8pt.

could you put Calibri 14 up on http://hipnetic.com/geek/, it looks like it got skipped, i think im gonna have to use at least 14 as a system font... cause anything smaller cuts smilely faces off Oh dear.

Sorry, I had converted that one a while back so it didn't pop up to the top when I sorted by date and copied things over via FTP. It's out there now.

    From the manual:
"Some applications cannot tolerate a font that is larger or smaller than the normal height of
22 pixels. For those applications, use a font that has that has a normal height, e.g., Utopia 18."

This thread has to be a TreoCentral classic. I have always been a bit afraid of installing fonts on the Treo (not really good at fonts at all), but the above post was so clear and the entire thread so full of enthusiasm, I decided I had enough info to tackle the challenge. Now that I have installed and registered Fontsmoother and have it working, I am going to go back and re-read the entire thing over again. Of course, after taking a break...

    Thanks to all!
