What speeds are you seeing with a Verizon 700p on EVDO. I tried a 700w a couple of months ago and was consistently 300k - 700k speeds. I've been trying a 700p for the past two days and I'm seeing anywhere from 100k - 250k. This is in the same three locations I tried the 700w. I using http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed/ to test the speed. Is the network just slower now, and is there something wrong? It's definitely going faster than T-Mobile EDGE but not as fast as I remember. I do have the little green EVDO (EV) symbol showing and there green triangles above the signal strength (not green arrows) so according to the manual it must be using EVDO.

As I mentioned in another thread, when testing your speed at dslreports.com using Blazer you have to click the link that says 'click now' as soon as it appears at the end of the test, rather than wait to be redirected. I just got 400 kbps if I don't wait, and 251 kbps if I wait. This is a Blazer issue, not an EVDO issue....

Even when I click on the "click now" link as fast as I can, the very fastest I've ever seen is 257k. It seems like it's fast enough that it must be using EVDO, which is my primary concern. But, I'm confused why it's so much slower than when I tried it a couple of months ago on the 700w.

Try clearing Blazer's cache before every test. Other than that, I have no explanation other than EVDO service is spotty in the area where you are testing. My results are consistent and repeatable here in Los Angeles.

Hmmm, tried that, no difference. I guess I'll try to go to a Verizon store and see if a difference device gets the same or not. I mainly want to make sure it's not the device.

I just got 448 kbps...nice! I didn't see any higher Treos listed on the 'Results' page, and that includes the 700w. You can tell by looking for device's screen size. According to the 'Fastest' link, Sprint does better with a 408 kbps average vs 335 for Verizon. By the way, I don't know if it makes a difference, but the address I use is www.dslreports.com/mspeed rather than text.dslreports.com/mspeed

I was testing it out on Verizon, I was going to switch. I live in San Francisco CA by the way, and while I didnt test out the speeds, it was *** slow Compared to Sprint's Power Vision (Which to be fair, I had tested on a PPC 6700 which I returned within the week... talk about a ****ty phone). I returned that phone, and am keeping my Sprint Service.

Got only 130 kbit/sec. Location: Encinitas (North of San Diego), California.

I've now gotten between 100k - 350k on the 700p but usually around 220k. I've tried it with my normal setup and right after a hard reset, no difference.

I was a Verizon store today trying a Q. Side by side, testing the same website, the Q got 600k, the 700p 300k. I normally got 300k - 700k on a 700w. It's hard to believe it's a defective unit since it works just slow. The current speeds I see are certainly fast compared to GSM, but they should be faster.

I'm not sure if the speed is hampered because of Blazer. I only got up to around 130k via Blazer. This morning I installed the new PdaNet for Treo 700p. I tethered the Treo to my laptop via PdaNet (using the 'dial-up' mode in case you're wondering if I was using the new 'proxy' mode), brought up Internet Explorer, and I was able to get around 600 to 700k! Remind you I did the tests at the same physical location - Encinitas, California.

I read from some other threads that Opera Mini may give us better user experience on a Treo 700p. I have yet to try it so I cannot comment.

You could be right. I was thinking the same thing right after my last post. If it's just blazer, I can live with that. I've only tried bluetooth DUN so far and you can't get the fastest speed unless you use the USB cable. If I can get the full speed when tethered, that would be OK.

My tests have always been at 600k......

I believe that the speed IS hampered somewhat by Blazer, but I'm still getting 350kbps to 450kbps consistently here in Los Angeles with Verizon, so that doesn't explain your results....
