FYI - This thread was just highlighted on Engadget Mobile (www.engadgetmobile.com). Happy hacking.

Do we really want this to get out to sites like engadget? Lets hope no one at Sprint or Verizon reads it.

    Okay, I am confused:

Why do you need to even go into Blazer for Bluetooth DUN?

I just downloaded the hack, reset my phone, and then created a DUN profile in Windows XP using my Bluetooth connection built into my computer. Used #777 to connect.

Is the Blazer connection for Mac users?

On another note, my built in Bluetooth Handsfree Kit in my car did not connect today...well, it said it was connected, but never switched the call from my phone to the handsfree kit....it's never done this before....could it in any way be related to this new hack?

    Thanks in advance everyone....

I think the reason to make a connection in blazer is just to make sure you are on the power vision network. I could be wrong.

I received my Treo 700p yesterday. I'm reluctant to activate it because 1. PDANET hasn't come out with their new 700p software
    2. utilizing this hack seems to use the BT connection and my laptop doesn't have BT capabilities.

I've used PDANET with my Treo 600 currently with very little problems thru a USB cable.

So I guess I have to wait until this nice hack is USB capable and/or PDANET releases the 700p version.

My question is this: according to the palmone website when you compare the Treo 700p to the 700w and the 650(p), the 650p and the treo 700p are running the same palm operating system. Why wouldn't the treo 650 PDANET software run on the 700p??? Has anyone who had a 650p with PDANET run it on their new 700p????

PDANET checks the OS and/or phone type. Only works on 650 and it checks.

Thanks...that makes sense, but I don't think you have to be on the power vision network or in an area where you are receiving a "good" EVDO signal, do you?

I used the hack last night and connected just fine and I don't think I was in a "power vision/evdo area"....it's kind of spotty around my house.

Anyone else know if you have to have a Power Vision/EVDO signal to use this program/hack?

    Thanks again guys!!!!

I think you just need to be able to access the network. Going into blazer will force a connection. I think just like the 700p does, if you're not in PowerVision/EV-DO it will connect to the Vision network.

Makes sense and I agree because as I mentioned earlier, I wasn't in an EVDO area. I just don't see why you need to go into to blazer to check for a connection. You can just see if you have a good signal by looking at your "number of bars". I just go straight to DUN and it connects.....okay....moving on now

Tried to get this to work, but I have no idea what I'm doing. Keeps saying can not connect to remote device.

UPDATE - I'm in. Not sure what I did different. But I connected in. 115.2 kbps. In fact, I'm posting this over the connection. Now question is - when I disconnect and try again, will it keep working. I hate it when things work and I don't know what I did to make it work .

On your 700p install cd, there is an option to install sprints connection software, do that. it will install the needed usb modem drivers for your treo and provide connection software via usb. tried it with the hack last night, worked fine, surfed and chatted on irc for 20min, no drops.

OK, i have tried this with CDMA 700p and Macbook Pro (via BT), and it worked. HOWEVER, althought i was getting download speeds of aourn 228 kbs (averge?) i was kicked off after about 6 minutes, and all of my BT peripherals (mouse and keyboard) crashed. Had to reset phone, restart computer twice and delete all BT pairings and reconfigure to get it working again. This time i have been on for about 7 mins, and am not using my BT peripherals. I will keep testing this.

Also, can I get a confirmation from someone that 1) there is currently NO USB syncing solution for Mac and 2) there is one coming up?!?! Is someone beta testing one? I would be happy to assist... and/or 3) is it possible to use USB cable and sprint software via Parallels? I cannot get this working.

OK, i just got back from being kicked off again, this time it said my connection was droped because the "other side" was not communicating. Is there a preference I can tweak?

BLESS YOU FOR THS!!! My hubbie is paying the $40/month for this and I only need it like 1 or twice a year. They are gettign plenty of money from us. Plus I'm still irked that I had this functionality for free with my treo 650. Thought long and hard about returning this 700p...

Yes, there is a developer working on a USB networking method currently for Mac OS X.

I have the Verizon tethering option, so I won't be testing this hack.

But my experience with the Mac and BT DUN is that if you don't keep data flowing, the connection will time out after a minute or so and disconnect. Fortunately, the 700p works better in that regard, because with the 650p, I had to stop and restart the BT radio on my phone before I could connect again. At least now with the 700p I can just go to the connection icon on the menu bar and reconnect quickly.

That's USB Modem, correct? It's an app that actually gets installed on the Trei itself... so when the kinks are worked out, that's an option for USB dial-up-networking from Windows as well as Mac.

For now though, I've got it working via BT on my MacBook Pro. Works great! Thanks for sharing the hack, as well as tips and tricks here!
