The problem is not Wireless Synch, or at least not only Wireless Synch. I've got the skipping issue and no Wireless Synch. Especially bad when switching apps.

    I have a Sprint 700P, using a 150X card, PTunes 3.1.5.

Ptunes jumps for me, at least on the files I've synched. Actually those files were converted from MP3 to WMA files my WMP for some reason - does anyone know how to prevent that?

I tried making Chatter go offline but that didn't help. It doesn't seem to matter whether the screen is on or off for me, but it does seem that it skips more often when I start going into other apps and playing while Ptunes plays something in the background.

But I'm not getting the jumping as often as some of you. It seems if I leave Ptunes alone and just let it play, it only jumps once every 30-90 seconds or so. Still annoying, but usable...

I get the same thing, even with 3.0.9 that comes pre-loaded into ROM. I also don't consider the infrequent skips to be usable considering that ptunes never skips on the 650.

ptunes skips on the 700p but not on the 650. Palm even knows about it but doesn't have a fix. http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...tem,CASE=42632

I have a similar problem with Audible. When the screen turns off I start to get little clicks and skips. I haven't checked to see if coincides with the LED. The only workaround for now is to keep turning the screen back on. Does anyone know of a program to keep the screen on while NOT in the cradle?

    This is funny:

"This can happen during some processor-intensive activities, such as switching between applications..."

I didn't know switching between applications was so "processor-intensive". I guess switching between applications on the 650 wasn't so intensive. I wonder, too, if doing things in Pocket Tunes like pressing play or pause or looking at menu choices are intensive b/c it skips then, too. And maybe plugging the audio jack into my car is too intensive and looking at the screen is intensive. I wish they'd just admit that there's a bug and they're trying to fix it!

Won't make a difference. Either way, the app has to be loaded into RAM to be actually run.
You can test this by installing a new version in RAM use filez to make the version number later than the ROM version and it will run in preference.

Looking at the specs on Kingston's site, my card is a 50x. However, I was able to get a vfsmark score of 1238 on it when it was in my overclocked Treo 650.
Same card as stroths, and I get skips, sputters, pauses, etc as well. I would recommend using The Core Pocket Media Player http://tcpmp.sourceforge.net/

Exactly. The truth of the matter is that the 650 was much more powerful than the 700p. Every benchmarking utility shows at least a 50% decrease in speed going from the 650 to the 700p.

I have both the 700 and 650 and neither one skips when in the pocket tunes app, and both skip when switching apps.

You must have some problems on your 650.

I didn't test it on the 700P yet, but I've had this problem with Ptunes and the 650 for quite some time. Weird thing is that the MP3 ringtone plays fine (locks up occasionally), but when playing straight from the PocketTunes program that same file warbles and then soft resets the device after about 10 seconds.

I have managed to get it to stop for a while by going into "Advanced Prefs" and uncheck "Pre-allocate Code memory," but I've had the same problem on occasion even with this unchecked. My best guess is something in the way it's interacting with the dbcache. Streaming off the 'net isn't affected, only files on an external 150x 2GB card.

Somehow I don't think mine was the only 650 that skipped when switching apps.

I will get some minor hesitation on app switches, which is no big deal to me. The serious warbling and then soft reset is quite a bummer (especially considering the price of the application!).

Not mine. The only time the 650 skipped is when Chatter checked mail in the background. The skipping on the 700 happens for no reason whatsoever.

What are your 650's benchmark scores? Maybe you got a slow one. Mine never skips unless I load a big program like Chatter and then it's only a very brief skip. The 700p, on the other hand, skips like crazy because it doesn't have the power that the 650 has.

Guys, I have to add one issue I have with Technician-Ptunes combo. Seems to apply here since the problem I am having is exactly described by others (MP3 playback skips and sound is choppy).

    - I make Technician to use ptunes (updated to deluxe v3.1.5) as the MP3 player. When I go within technician to select an MP3 player to playback ringtones I select Ptunes, then I start the test of the MP3 I want to use as a ringtone, and the sound quality is good (plays continuosly). When I select the same MP3 back in the Ringer options and play it back as a test by selecting Start, I get the choppy version. Neither to say the ringtone is choppy whenever I receive a call. This does not happen with the SMS tones however!

I have tested the MP3 outside of Ptunes in my own computer and it is not corrupted, it plays just fine. BTW, I am playing right now MP3 music in my 700p with the screen completely off and the MP3 playback is A-OK...

Let's see what Normsoft has to say about this issue. Ptunes seems to be the problem here and is not being very consistent from what one can read in this thread...

Do your MP3s skip if you use the MP3 player that's built into technician or is it only if you use ptunes?
