From that backup, you can copy the contacts files, should be address.dat into the address folder and then open up the Palm Desktop, click on the Hotsync option, then Click on Custom, set the option to "Contacts - Desktop overwrites handheld" and then sync. That will sync the "good" contacts file on your device. After that, I would set it to no action or handheld overwrites desktop. It is rare that I enter contact information from the Desktop.

If you set the conduit to "no action" by default then that database will never get backed up when you Hotsync. Once the immediate problem is fixed, the appropriate default choices are "synchronize" or possibly "handheld overwrites desktop."

In my situation, it is rare that I depend upon the desktop. If I loose something, I reinstall it from the last backup done to the card. For all of mine, I have them set to 'device overwrites desktop" and change it as needed, the default though always stays the same.

Thank you for clearing up what I said.

I recommend NVBackup. That way, I always have a 4 days' worth of backups with me, even when I'm away from the computer. I use it kind of like an "uninstall" program. I always make a backup just before installing something. If the new program causes major problems on my Treo, I just revert to the backup that I just made! You can't have too many backups!

To get rid of the "error #16397" during Hotsync, follow these directions:
