Does this even work with the 650? Never did for me.

Okay....very interesting results from my tests. When the mobile speed test is complete, you can either click the link that says "click now" or wait for the browser to redirect you to the results page. When I wait to be redirected, I get results in the mid-200 kbps for 600k consistently. If I click on the "click now" link as soon as it's available, I get 350-391 kbps for 600k consistently. In fact, if you look at the "results today" page, my 391 kbps is the highest for any Palm OS device, and there is not a single listing for Sprint results for the 700p. Maybe we'll see more as the Sprint 700p gets released.

what speed do you guys get on your 650 that aren't in a metro area?

Just compared my 700p (sprint) with a 6700(sprint) while in the same cube.

    6700(800k), 700p (250k).

After multiple tests the numbers were consistently poor for me.

^I think the first Sprint numbers that showed up were a fluke. Seems Palm's Blazer is not capable of much greater than 400Kbps. But how is the browsing experience in comparison? How long does it take to load, say CNN.com, on 6700 vs. 700p?

Also, do you have tethering on the 700p? USB tethering should do around 1Mbps.

Under results today, best 700p times so far:

    354 kbps - Sprint
    346 kbps - Verizon

I only got 208 kbps (Sprint) using the 200K download. Using the 600K, I got 133. Not good.

You did? Your results do not show up on the results page. There are no scores at 746 kbps, and no Palm Blazer browser results above 354 kbps:

    http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?results=1

The highest Cingular result for a Palm Blazer is 146 kbps, not 746, and that's for a 100k file. For the sake of consistency, maybe everyone can use something more meaty, like 600k.

It strikes me that some of these test runs may have been conducted with CSS/Javascript turned off and others with it on. It may be helpful if folks state how they have Blazer configured.

    Morrie,

I think you need to delete your cache before every test to get accurate results. Try that, and then a 600k test.

P.S. This was your first result, as it was a 650 (Blazer 4.2) on Cingular:

    146 2.89s (100k) mycingular.net Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.2) 16;320x320 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0

I wonder if this test site will work on 700p. It is javascript based.

I've tried dslreports/mspeed with and without javascript enable. It still had the same poor results.

Can anyone try to measure the upstream/downstream speed via USB connection with this (300KB) tethering utility on PC/Mac? Note, that one may need to completely disable the bluetooth on the Treo. The driver installation is described in the included user's guide.

It does not matter if the PAM is enabled in the contract. Only the Unlimited Data Plan ($15) should be required for this utility, because it uses the normal phone NAI.

We'll give away the full versions to the first three people who will post the results.

thanks dcpmark, i ran the test again after clearing my cache and got this result which makes no sense to me.

    409 kbit/sec

    0.185s latency
    20.173s d/l time.again.

Yeah, this one is a head-scratcher. The fastest speed for a 650 on Cingular so far today is (bold is the kbps):

    198 2.831s (200k) mycingular.net Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.2) 16;320x320 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0

You didn't say what size test you ran, but I THINK this is your actual test reult. I don't know why it's reporting wrong on your device:

    106 1.841s (200k) mycingular.net Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.2) 16;320x320

Delete your cache, and try a 600k test. Then we'll find it more easily.
