How are you upgrading from your 650 to 700p? Reinstalling each app one-by-one? Restore from backup? Just plug it up and HotSync?

I haven't found another thread like this and I apologize if there is.

    1. Get phone.
    2. Put **** on it until it crashes.
    3. Whine on TC boards about unstable Palm OS.
    4. Hard reset and start all over again.

    Questions?
Go here if you're tired of being .
    It'll be fun.

I will be following the clean install approach:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...highlight=700p

    http://treo.discuss.treocentral.com/...ad.php?t=99450
Same scenario: replace 600==>650 with 650==>700P

Most will tell you to back up your 650 and palm folder on your pc. Then uninstall the palm software on your PC. Install the 700 software from the new CD, then the first app you should install is uninstall manager. Then install your other apps one by one (i.e. one app per hotsync). Following this procedure will give you the best chances for a trouble free treo.
    Visor --> Visor Platinum --> Treo 300 --> Treo 600 --> Treo 650 --> Treo 700p --> Treo 755p --> Treo 800w --> Palm Pre

I started from scratch, even though I had a full backup of my 650. I deleted the Palm desktop software, renamed my Palm backup folder on the pc and reinstalled the Palm software. I selected sync to outlook and did a first sync with no new applications. I then added the apps one by one. I found only one (Sketcher) which caused resets when I tried to exit, so it became history. Otherwise, all went smoothly.

I know some people have done a restore from a 650 backup. But I've found it is easier to do a clean install now rather than trying to figure out what is causing problems later. But you may not be that neurotic.

I have daughters on a Zire 71 and the 650 -- so I am going to leave the desktop in place -- I have been over writing desktops from the Pilot days -- so far, I have not had a problem -- however -- I have not reviewed the Palm website for their recommendations -- or seen what instructions have come inside the box.

    Cheers, Perry.

Charge. Sync with outlook (after backing up outlook) under new hotsync name. Install software in batches. Go!

    1. Installed Uninstall Manager
    2. Install .prc files from Hotsync
    3. Used Backupman to install programs with heavy setup (snapper, verichat, etc.)

No. Renaming the backup directory is sufficient; Perry's link is the way to go (IMO).

Actually, I did it just the way they say in the manual, straight desktop sync. No problems so far, surprisingly. On the other hand, either VolumeCare isn't working or my 700p has an exceptionally quiet speaker.

Try taking the clear sticker off the camera -- your phone will magically become louder!

I have successfully taken a 650 setup (non-palm apps were ringo, treo alert manager, treoguard, mobileTS and pssh) and hotsync'd it to a 700p and only needed to update Ringo (which I did via downloading an update OTA) to have a fully functioning 700p that acted just like my 650.

I suppose this may be a stupid question, but what would be a reason NOT to use BackupMan on the 650, then simply restore everything on the 700p? I did this and everything works; Snappermail is probably my most complicated "big" program, and am really not using any "hacks". This updated my Docs To Go from the 8.01 which came on the Treo to the 8.03 which I had previously purchased for my Treo 650 too.
