Please be patient, I'm somewhat of a newbie but I learn fast.

First....what is all this talk about card readers? I've been using My Dell Inspiron 6000 SD slot to manipulate my Dane-Elec is there some advantage to using a card reader? Am I jeopardizing my card by NOT using one?

Second....I am experiencing VERY SLOW Backupman speeds. OMG, it took 20 minutes to back up when I'm used to 45 seconds on my 512 card. Is this normal?

    Thanks
    K

    1) The card slot is an "integrated" card reader. For all intents and purposes it is a card reader. It just happens to be built in to your laptop.

    2) Most likely you will need to reformat the SD card. See http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...=114979&page=5

P.S. - Remember to back up your card data before proceeding with the reformat.

Sandisk has released two models, but they are not cheap:

I've seen the standard Sandisk 4GB card for $99 on Froogle.

I have a 4gig Adata card and it is working well. After I copied my old 1 gig card to my 4 gig I am able to launch programs from the sd card with Powerrun. When I go to powerrun and select memory card. It just sits there saying unknown and calculating and I am not able to edit or delete anything. Does anyone else have this problem in Powerrun?

Those are both SDHC cards which, I now believe, do not work on the 700. You're right about them being "not cheap" though.

Just checking before I order the new card, will this one work with the 700p?

Why wouldn't you read the cons with this particular card on the right side of the page before you asked this?

    They are insane.

I have had three of these in three different phones. Tried to format both on the treo and my laptop. Done hard resets, nothing has worked. It recogizes it for a short time and then the eject sound happens and its gone.

Has anyone got one of these to work.

I remember reading a about a special format needing to be done to allow the treo to read the card faster than it can with a regular format. Could someone give me a recap on that.

Class 2 Transcend 8gb card , goes for about $100

would 8gb sdhc card be allot slower then the Transcend 4gb SD 150x card that u can get for $60 ...?

i am torn between which one to get.....

i am not pushed for memory at this time so the 4gb would be good for now

i will be running tomtom6 though..always good to have more memory but i dont want the application to run slow in that i will miss turns being that the card is slow

but i am not sure if the treo only reads and writes at a certain max speed anyway, no matter what card

    anyone more educated about this?

I can only guess, but the only thing slow on my 150X 4GB is the file write process. . . . . access to programs, files, photos and music already on the card seems to be as fast as my 2GB card.

Edit: This is for Mac OS X
I just ran newfs_msdos on my mac in an attempt to format my new 8Gb Adata SDHC card to Fat32 with 32kb clusters in order to use it on my Treo 650 (with the 680's SDHC driver). I used the following command:

    newfs_msdos -F 32 -c 64 -k 0xffff disk2s1
"-F 32" sets the filesystem to Fat32, "-c 64" set the cluster size to 32k, "-k 0xffff" sets the backup to none, "disk2s1" happens to be the location of the SD card on my machine (you can find out your card's device by running the "df" command).

Looks like I screwed up in some manner, and didn't realize the newfs_msdos wouldn't recognize the card's true capacity, as the card had previously appeared to have around 7.5Gb of free space in the Finder, and now has 3.52Gb of free space. I'm going to try formatting it on a PC.

connected to a windows machine, ran Card Reader, and executed the following line at an MSDOS prompt:

    format /fs:FAT32 /V:A-DATA /A:32k F:

Now the card is back to reporting 7.53Gb free when connected to my mac.
