No, he paid about a $1000 if I remember correctly, and wasn't compensated when he gave it back to Palm. Seeing as he paid that much, $6.49 should be too much at this point.

From the link to the sprint website: "The Treo 700P will be available at the end of May at Sprint Stores, Sprint business channels and online at www.sprint.com at $399.99 after available discounts and promotions."

That means my dear mother is getting a new line with a Treo 700p ... for one day before I swap it from under her! ....

... Well, I AM paying for it ...
Palm Personal --> Palm Vx --> Tungsten T --> waiting to get first Treo P (get on with it, Palm!)

Well for my 650 it was my mother...lets see for the 700p it would be my dad

What will it be with a new activation? Hopefully not $649.99 with a new activation..

LP-Trel -- I think back in the 70's I did a lot of business with your cousin K-Tel. Boy K-Tel sure sold me a bunch of records -- compellations from Kool and the Gang and much more.

    I miss K-Tel.

(note: for those unaware... "records" ... also known as "albums" were vinyl discs appoximately 3 times larger than a CD. Through a magical process sound was pressed into the vinyl and when you used a high-tech device known as a "record player" (also known as a "phonograph") you could release the sound from the vinyl and hear it through the speaker. Some record players had 2 speakers. These were call "stereophonic" and they simulated sound with spatial separation.) Click here for more information.

Question for those with 650's who might be wanting a 700p. Is anyone considering doing a tradein thru the Palm website? I got a quote and they were offering $170 for my 650. I could probably get more via eBay, but I have a feeling that there will be a deluge of 650's there. Plus I really don't want to go thru all the trouble. Unfortunately I'm having to pay full price if I get a 700p.

I'm curious...generally speaking how impatient is everyone for new technology? I tend to be an early adopter myself and count the seconds like everyone else around here -- but lets face it -- we're all going to pay a premium price to jump to the 700p this summer.

Is there anyone out there who's reasoned enough to wait a couple of months or are all we all (yes, I include me in the "jump early jump often" crowd) going to find any way possible to sell our 650's right away (even for less than we should) and then pay MORE than we should to buy the latest and greatest?

I am very impatient. I always have to have the latest and greatest gadget. That's why I have a computer museum with about 15 PC's in it (including an original Atari 400 and Commodore 64). I am always trading up.

Look at it like this: Wait 3 months, get it for $250 less then when first released. $250/3=$83.33 a month savings which will cover a lot of brews. When the 650 was released the price seemingly went down on it just 30 days after release and people were offering huge deals.

    mmmmm....beeer.....

There's been a lot of complaining about the supposed $650 price point. But the honest truth is that they price it that way because they can. If there weren't so many eager beavers jumping into the stream they'd have to really think twice about their intro pricing.

I thought I outgrew the must-buy-immediately phase, but it appears I am getting extremely tempted by the 700p. And I really don't know why, as I don't live in an EV-DO coverage area (well, I do travel on business a lot, and I've been told we will have EV-DO here by the end of the year).

OK, I'll also admit that I don't like having the "old" model. It's been bad enough enduring the 700w's release. I can't count the number of times people have asked me, "is that the new Treo that I've been seeing on TV?"

Five-seconds into the answer I get that all-too-familiar deer-in-headlights blank stare. So I've just been saying, "yep, sure is; ain't she a beauty?" No one has picked up on it, but I'm getting tired of living a lie. I'd much rather say, "Heck no! This is the EVEN newer Treo!"

I can tell I'm getting into stage one of "purchase justification mode." (Should have used Perry's "different mode for each post" technique.)

Stage two is convincing myself that my 650 is gonna be dropping in value by-the-day, so that I had better unload it ASAP.

Stage three is deciding if I need to convince my wife, who, while wanting her own Treo, will only use it to play solitaire and make phone calls (the waste!). At this point, assuming I can hide the transaction, I really don't think she'll realize I've moved to a new device. Well, I hope so anyway.

Stage four, should it get to that point, is either divorce or buying something for her equally--no make that twice as--expensive as the 700p (not factoring in the money received for my 650, naturally).

Stage five is of course complaining about the 700p, and that I should have just stayed with my 650.

By that time the cycle should be ready to begin again...
