I was wondering if there will be non camera 700p's avaialble? if anyone had any info, that would be great. I didn't see that option in any descriptions. I would love to step up to a newer model, but its becoming harder and harder to get the newer model phones w/out cameras.

    thanks

There is just something about buying something that is less than what everyone else gets that bugs me. ;-)

The Treo 700p doesn't have a camera. It has a waste of space on the body of the camera with useless applications that take up space in my ROM. I've NEVER taken a picture with my 600 with camera. I ordered the 650p without the camera. Now I'm stuck with the 700p until they release the cameraless model.

Called Palm. They don't have it. Called Verizon and they don't either. They don't know when/if they will. But they did have the non-camera version of the 600 & 650, so that indicates that there is a demand for it. If you see/hear of the camera-less 700p, PLEASE post.

Iím sure they will carry the non-camera version. A lot of government and other security oriented people require devices that do not have a camera on them.

At the time of the 700p release from Sprint, they did have the non-camera version available on their website. I don't know if its still available, call in to check.

I'm assuming you need the non-camera version for work?
Couldn't you just break the camera to make them happy? I'm thinking a well placed sharp tool (or use a sharpie) could render it useless. I'm thinking no lens means no camera...

    Just wondering.

Nope. No camera means that there cannot be the ability to take a picture period. Most secure facilities won't even allow cell phones.

Yep, In high(higher) security installations, when they say no cameras, they mean no cameras, period. Whether they work or not has no bearing on the definition of a camera. You can not create exceptions. When you are sitting down signing your termination forms, they say "what part of the phrase "no cameras" did you not understand, son?"

Sounds a little harsh, but it is reality (with good reason) in some of our work areas.

It would be smart to carry a non camera version. Some businesses don't allow cameras. I work in the Automotive industry and you can't have a camera phone in any of the Auto industries main frame...they don't want you taking pictures of any new vehicles that are being tested and releasing them to the press for a couple of bucks only to find your job lost and a possible fine at the end...yet I do have a camera on my 700p, since I work in Automation dealing with Robotics for the industry, so I don't see the developing end of the vehicles unless I am in that area from time to time, then I don't carry my phone, or I just don't take pictures like a fool.

Probably will come out about the same time as the GSM version of the 700p if I were a betting man.
