I just submitted this to Slashdot but I doubt they'll publish it... but anyway... I lost my 650 stylus so I went to the nearest electronics shop which happens to be a BestBuy. They wanted $29 (with tax it was $31) for the Palm three-pack. They seemed outrageous, so I came home and checked online. Palm.com, CircuitCity, and CompUSA all charge approximately $15 for the same exact thing. I then called the BestBuy and complained to the manager who clearly did NOT give a crap. So instead, I decided to post about it here. Don't buy at BestBuy!!

    The proof's in the numbers:
    CompUSA: http://tinyurl.com/r6d5n
    Palm.com: http://tinyurl.com/r2oqr
    CircuitCity: http://tinyurl.com/npbxf

I would have to agree that is high. While is it the retailer's discretion as to how to set pricing, the MSRP on that product is $16.25. There are occasionally circumstances beyond a retailers control which cause a price inflation, but this could be considered extreme.

    Well I agree...

There is a Best Buy approximatly 1.5 miles from my house. The product selection is very low and the prices are very high.

I prefer to drive 29 miles south of the house to the Comp Usa store.

I bought the last 2 wired USB network adapters for my Tivo's at Circuit City for $29.99. I needed one more so I went across the street to Best Buy. Their price was $44.99. I told them, and showed them a receipt, that Circuit City's price was $29.99. The representative called a manager. He simply told me that was their price in the system and basically, that was that. I thought once upon a time, they would at least price match.

I'd order a new sealed 3pk online and return that one to Best Buy.

Uh, like Best Buy has a price matching program. If Circuit City or Compusa has them in store BB will match the price plus 10% off. I am surprised a BB manager would not inform you of that in store policy.

I don't like BB that much, but I thought they had price match.

Maybe print this out and bring it in to the store:

If not, call BB customer service and complain.

Have you been paying too much for gas? You need to chill out.

In every store, you will always find some items that are ridiculously expensive relative to other stores while, at the same time, you will find items that are much cheaper relative to other stores. Just because the stylii are expensive doesn't mean everything in the store is expensive, too.

    Get your stylii at http://store.treocentral.com/content...16-44--114.htm

I have a feelign he really didn't experience this at BB but is a former employee or something who has just got it out for them. I really don't care for them either but this seems to be a situation where he could have resolved this very easily if he wanted to.

Could be...when you're gouged at the pump, it's natural to start thinking: "Where else did I get gouged?"

I guess I'm just into making things up. I thought I outgrew that 40 years ago.

I did resolve it. I paid $44.95 for the $29.99 product since I needed it and wanted it at the time.

Ummm.... no you moron. I was just in utter shock that anyone would dare charge 30 bucks for a stupid little stylus and somehow think that's a reasonable amount, especially when all the major competition charges half that much, so I thought I'd do my fellow Treonauts a favor by posting about it here so they don't fall victim to said stupidity.

Did you ask if they price match? If not, I don't feel sorry for you.

Not only do they match, but they give you back 10% of the difference.

I've been in that situation with a missing stylus. Found that the round closed end of a ballpoint pen works well. Also, paperclips, the jack to my headphone, and the nail on my pinky finger.

I'd use all of those before paying the amount BB was charging. In the past year, I've had enough problems at BB (from employee attitude to pricing) that I don't even think about them anymore. Wonder how this stuff helps them attract the "high end" customers they so desperately crave?
