Not a refresher in Sarcasm...I haven't been here as long as some of you guys, so maybe I am gullable, but some of you guys in this forum, I don't know when to question. There are some die hards to their devices. I use my notebook and phone in my profession, and I do love them both. I know people who will update every six months, no matter what the cost if its available. I probably did miss the sarcasm, but at times I wouldn't be surprised vise versa. Its all good though.

Not insinuating I'm a genius...but my job takes up so much of my noodle, I tend to miss the 100 level classes...LOL Now...all I want is EVDO.

679 is a joke and a travesty all rolled into one.

Maybe I will hang on to my 650 for a few more months.

When the price is $479 with a 1-year contract I'll buy it assuming there is significant enough of improvement from the 650. The memory increase, EVDO and built-in PT is a start, but I'd lke to the HTML images visible in the e-mail client, too. Anyone know how much EVDO will cost per month yet?

I don't know if I'm willing to pay more for the phone AND my plan. I have some thinking to do.

I think that price is retarded. I aint paying 1 cent more over the 6700 launched price. (was it 400 or 450?)

If they think they can delay the release and jack up the price, they won't see my credit card number.

    Hey all,
Very seldom to post but a big time lurker.
I have been waiting for the 700p since the rumors started appearing here and am usually one of the first to upgrade to a new toy.
I have had the 650 since before Thanksgiving 04 which I am sure is a record for any phone I have owned but I will NOT give palm anywheres near this amount for what for my usage would amount to minor upgrades.

I live in Minnesota...land of 10,000 lakes....adding 1 lake to our state is a minor upgrade. Put that same lake in Death Valley and it's pretty major.

All I'm saying is that "minor" and "major" upgrades are all relative. We all use our Treos in different ways and for some these changes will be minor...for others they are a essential.

For me...I'm only shelling out $600 or more for a 700p if it comes with a 2 year supply of pizza and beer....but that's just me.

I bought the 700w from Verizon on launch date in January for $299 at Circuit City -- after all the rebates and service credits...I suspect you'll see something like a $679 "suggested retail price" but you'll probably see all kinds of rebates and gizmos and offers that will bring down the effective price much closer to the $300-$400 "sweet spot" for this kind of device...

Lets face it...as consumers we're all morons. And if I tell you that you can buy a $700 phone for $300...you think you're getting a deal. But if I tell you the 700P is $300 and I sell it at $300...you think you're getting shafted.

I agree. My point is (on my head) that I will not upgrade for $679. $300, maybe, but $679, no fludging way.

I can see the $619 the 700W is going for.

The 700W has the supposed better OS,

The 700P has a better screen and more effective user memory to play with.

It's a wash, they should be priced the same.

$75 off for a 1yr contract would then equal $544
$150 off for a 2yr contract woulod then equal $469.

The $499 1yr, $399 two year scenario sounds too deep from a historical standpoint, but might be plausible if they want to have a "blowout" introductory period.

    Cheers, Perry.

One thing to keep in mind is that if Palm really does have any intention of staying in the POS business it's going to need to saturate the market with one more generation of Frankengarnet units before moving to Linux. If they price the POS units too high, many folks (me included) will be very tempted to jump the WM5 platform.

Pricing this unit at the lower end of the spectrum, I think, will be essential to any long term "growth" in the POS market...if I jump to WM5 there is VERY LITTLE chance I will jump to Linux POS next year or the year after...

That's why the $499 1yr / $399 2yr scenario holds plausibility for me. You can set the MSRP at $999 for all I care -- but if the "intro deals" have value -- who cares about the MSRP setting!

That's why I am not getting excited about this $679 report -- I will wait to see what the price is when it hits the street.

    Cheers, Perry.

So that is what the "P" stands for!! (Might limit the market potential in Asia though.)
