Just playing around with the installer. It says that it will update the phone's software, including making changes to Versamail and Calendar software.

Having put the kibosh on Versamail when I ran the ROMTool ... I wonder what effect this would have on the updater and the performance of the phone.

I don't have a Blackberry account in any case, but was just curious about how things flowed, documentation (none so far) etc.

Would be interested in other folks' impressions of this process.

here is a link to the docs set up docs- http://home.singtel.com/upload_hub/consumer/treo650.htm

We have a corporate BES so I downloaded the new software (unsupported in other then Asia I think) for Blackberry Connect for the Treo 650. The install has 2 steps to it.

The 1st step installs a new version of Versamail and calendar. The 2nd step provisions the Treo to the BES. I did not go past step one, thus I did not provision the Treo on the bes. What I found was the new version of Versa when set up to sync with Exchange (again NOT BLACKBERRY) has the ability to sync:
    Email
    Calendar
& CONTACTS yes this new. You also have the option of syncing any or all 3 of the components.

Conclusion if you have an exchange server you have the ability to sync your contacts and calendar via versa, and still get the benefits of Chatter for email.

Unless you are on a BES, Blackberry service is no better than any other polling email software.

BBC threads are for those who need BBC, like myself. There are plenty of threads that debate the best email clients, this is not one of them

We have Blackberry service at work, but I don't have a Blackberry. I suppose I have to call my IT guy before I can setup my Treo with BBC. What do I need to ask him to do?

I am going to try the ask forgiveness later method...

my bb is on the way. rather than fire it up, I plan to move the sim to the treo and fire that up. I may be able to do it tomorrow or mon - will report back.

Corp IT will ONLY support BB - I installed the BB software and am up and running with no IT interaction. I think the key is to fire up the Treo BEFORE you initialize the BB.

    everyone is drooling.
