    Hello All,

I've just installed the new version of ScrBtn Ver 2.37,
and boy, is it unbelievable. Works great, hasn't crashed
and is FREE. With version 2.37, I can map the "HOME"
button to ScrBtn (one of the many enhancements).

This is what the Palm Launcher should have been, instead
    of the idiotic Categories crap...

One issue: cannot launch DBCacheDA with this one...

What is the advantage to using this application? I always use the ALL category and type in the first two letters of the application name.

To each, their own... I guess.

    Me too.

I've never liked the Palm Categories. I'd like to make a program fit multiple categories, and some not to show up at all (hidden- until I get brave enough to make my own custom rom).

I can't find a decent explanation as to what this app really does though. Can anyone explain? I'm new to "launchers".

For the merely skeptical, here is what ScrBtn does:

    - You can define "Buttons" and the application the Button will launch.
(separately, for each "page", see below)

    - You can define "Catagories" that are actually "pages", and contain
the above mentioned buttons. Importantly, you can fix the button location
    in each page.

    - You can define button actions to switch between the above mentioned pages.

The above is not a complete explanation, definitely, there is much more
    to ScrBtn than just that.

ScrBtn allows you to FIX the location of the Buttons. This is a BIG
improvement over the PalmOS Launcher, as:

    1) It is independent of Palm Categories, though you can do the same
    thing with ScrBtn.

    2) The Apps (buttons) don't shift around when you install/ delete new applications.

    3) You can have the same App in different locations on the same page
or many pages. (I've set the 5-way select button to launch the phone
in all my pages..., and the middle ScrBtn Button in all the pages always
takes me to the address book)

    4) Allows you to completely ignore idiotic s**t like XpressMail or QuickTour...

The only problem is it takes some setting-up... Can be done, but the
set-up process is a bit quirky.

If the above explanation is not clear, post your comments here and I'll
try to make the explanations clearer still.

PS: I'm not the developer of this utility, nor do I know or have corresponded
with the actual developer. No doubt he/ she is a fine gentleman/ lady.
I'm only excited about ScrBtn as it improved my Treo's usability dramatically.

I wouldn't mind a more detailed description of how people use this program too. The readme file seems a little vague...

My only wishlist item is showing system information like battery, radio signal and time on the title bar, like the buildin launcher.

Also the preset 5-navigations action is not good either.

Launchers are a very personal part of the Palm experience.

That said, I absolutely abhor categories too, so, I delete them. Go to 'Edit Categories' and get rid of them. All I have left is "All" and the SD card. Makes it much simpler to launch SD apps that way, but I also use Powerrun to keep a link in my "All" menu (for some).

Then, as some have said above, first two letters of the app take you straight.

I always used to do that, but they are recreated, I think, when you launch apps from the SD card... a drag to delete them every now-and-then.

I've been uding this program with its add-on SCTBTN,(so you have 2 menu screens) for over a year. One of the best launchers out there, and it can add on battery time, etc, read the directions again.

for those who don't like Categories - try Initiate. It's designed to work without them. They are there for those who like them, but Initiate works faster if yoy leave them always hidden

I downloaded V2.37 and played with it a bit.

You can launch DAs if you have DALauncher set to one of the scrbtn buttons.

If you have a button set to launch an app from the card, it does take a bit for the app to launch. If you set a button to launch an app from the card with a shortcut from zlauncher, the app opens rightaway.

I going to play with it some more. I found it real easy to use. I would like scrbtn a lot better if you could set up shortcuts with it...
