    Jack -

I don't mean to flame you, but do you read these things before you post them? There's not even a Palm OS version of this. What's more, it requires a PC Connector, your PC must be on, and there's an intermediate server as well. Sounds extremely clumsy to me.

    Marc

p.s. If you spend the time to "sign up" and specify your device as a Treo, the response is "emoze Device Client Not Yet Supported. We are constantly introducing new emoze device clients. Your device is not yet supported, but we will notify you as soon as it is available."

    Hahahaha!
Why are ringtones always such a big issue? Don't people realize that they're obnoxious!? And why the Nintendo 'Wii'? What th-!?

It works for the 700w as of now. And many other WM phones except the smartphone version.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

I took it from a interview article on a site which CLEARLY outlined it being designed for BOTH on the 700w as well as the 600 / 650 ...hence the twin posts ... let me see if I can find the article. My guess is the product is still in testing and not ready for prime time yet.

OK, I don't mean to flame anyone but ... isn't this funny....

"Dubbed, ‘emoze,’ the technology allows mobile users to receive email messages and PIM data such as contacts and diary scheduling while on-the-go, anywhere in the world. All you need to have to take advantage of the service, is an email account and a compatible device, the list of which is constantly growing.

Emblaze is committed to cover all devices and known email services on both corporate as well as consumer levels. The emoze service currently works with Windows Mobile and Symbian devices. Over the next few months support will be expanded to include Palm OS devices as well as Mac OS and Linux platforms. It is also expected to be available for Corporate Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes Domino servers without the need of PC based online software. "

Yes Marc I do read them and as is shown above Palm OS support is forthcoming. If we can talk about the 700p, BB Connect and Beta versions of Chatter, why can't we talk about other upcoming releases ? While you have a fine program, I think it's appropriate for users to decide for themselves what program they want to use and the more info we have on what is available now and what is forthcoming makes us all better consumers.

However, I have noticed that you have responded with criticism to every single post on alternative push systems which, as a direct competitor to such alternatives, I find ...well let me just say I find it "unusual" for a vendor to respond in such a manner.

Yeah, like BB Connect was available a year ago.

Yeah, like BB Connect was available a year ago.

And have you read about this thing? Desktop redirector, intermediate servers, yet another incompatible mail client, etc. It sounds truly horrific to me.

Palm stalled a feature rollout so as to avoid being embroiled in a lawsuit. Or perhaps they had additional reasons. I don't understand what the relevance is to pouncing on each competitor's product announcement.

Yes, I'll repeat, I have read about this thing. I also read that some of the things you list will sunset as the service develops. But, to my mind, I think it's up to potential customers to decide which way they want to go. I am not recommending the program, I am not trashing it. I don't think forum users need you or me to make their decision for them. To someone who doesn't have the $40 for Chatter, maybe it's not so horrific ? Maybe they can get by with this until they can afford Chatter ?

Personally I think you should just let Chatter speak for itself. It seems most people already like it much more than other alternatives. I don't understand why you would trash a potential competitor and jump on anyone who posts info about a competitor. I would suggest that, instead of always posting the first reponse to each and every notice of a competitor's product...

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=109916

.... it might be better to let the community to come to its own conclusions.

Funny as in "not looking before leaping" ? The WM5 product has been released and this was posted in the WM5 section.

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=111941

The palm OS version is, in fact, in development . Wouldn't that news be appropriately placed in the Palm OS section of these forums ?

I guess we will just agree to disagree about this. My first post wasn't trashing the product, it was chastising you for encouraging people to look at a product that didn't exist - it's a waste of time to follow links, answer questions, etc. and then find out the product doesn't exist (that's what I did, and it was annoying).

And BTW, I know NOTHING about the product. What I'm trashing is the CONCEPT - desktop redirector, intermediate server - ugh. To the extent that this is a service, it's not even a competitor!

Funny as in from your original post there's no indication given that this isn't currently available for the Palm OS. And being that Marc and LT(two people whom I don't often doubt on here...even if I DO argue with LT a lot) both said that it wasn't available for the Palm OS, I felt no need question that, nor to follow your link to a product I wouldn't even be able to use. Bottom line: Nowhere in your original post does it say or even so much as IMPLY that Emoze isn't currently available for the Palm OS, and being that your post IS in the Palm OS section, one would beleive that it WOULD be available.

Are you saying software must be comemrcially released before we talk about it ?

I'll readilly admit that a note about the release being "forthcoming" would have been astute on my part but the information was readily available at the link given. Personally, before I would stand up and say someone was wrong, I'd check the given source and make sure.

I didn't have to answer questions. Went to the site, clicked on "more info" / "supported platforms and devices" and voila.

Two clicks is not really a great effort. How many clicks would have been required for someone Googling "Free Push Alternatives" ? How many clicks would I need to say find out the installed footprint or RAM memory requirement for Chatter ? When I have recommended Chatter to friends looking to dump thir BB's and interested in push, that's a question they have asked that I have been unable to answer. I am not singling Chatter out, took me a while to get that info for TomTom. EDGE OTOH was easy.

I can't buy the 700p but that doesn't mean I am gonna run around and proclaim it doesn't exist nor criticize people for posting links to pages where it is talked about. And if peeps don't wanna hear about as yet unreleased products why are the 700p threads the busiest threads on this forum ?

    1. If peeps are not interested in the product, they won't pursue it.
    2. If peeps are interested in the product, they can invest the two clicks, bookmark the page and follow its progress.

To me, any news about an newly released upcoming product for a Treo is something I want to hear about. There's plenty of "Jack, thanks for the tip" posts in response to such threads and I've posted many "Thanks for the tip" posts when others have started them. Your "chastising" and objection to posts about upcoming releases seem to only apply to products that compete with Chatter.

My intent was to point people to a site where they could find out about an upcoming free push alternative. It's up to them to decide if the product is worthwhile alternative for them, whether they can wait for it and how it compares to other alternatives for their needs. As the post was not a review, I made no attempt to offer advice, compile features, restrictions or bug the vendor for a release date. If the information was not worth two clicks of your time or that having to do two clicks was "annoying", I gotta conclude that you weren't really that interested in obtaining a free push alternative. A high school senior hovering in these boards, hoping to pick up a used Treo and some programs on a tight budget for his freshman year at college in September might have another opinion and not find the two clicks a problem.

A college kid can feed himself for weeks on $40 In my day, dinner was just 39 cents.

Like I said, both Marc and LT said it wasn't available for the Palm OS, and that was good enough for me. Anyway, this has to be one of the dumbest arguments I've had in a long time, so let's just forget about, alright? No hard feelings.

One of the things I like about Marc is that he isn't all annoyingly over-the-top political on here like a lot of the other developers. You know "Dear user, please be advised that we are working dilligently ignoring your problem. Respectfully recognize..." blah blah blah. Marc's more real. Ah well, moving on.

I have always taken Marc's posts to be informative and helpful and, though I don't use the program, I think he's one of the most responsive developers in the community. Maybe it's everyone's frustration about not having a new toy to play with in a while but I am very disappointed with the "attitude" developing here on TC of late with people jumping on posters with no discernable justification.

Someone posts info / pics on a 700p rumor / leak and he's automatically a liar. If someone was to say there's an alternative to Palma Sutra out (or coming out) someone would undoubtedly be compelled to respond that the poster is a deviate cause they don't like position No. 42 or a liar cause they are convinced that Postion no. 56 is humanly impossible. What I would prefer is that before anyone jumps on anyone else, that they "count to 10", maybe do some independent investigation, and if they don't have any hard evidence to the contrary give the peep the benefit of the doubt.

It's easy enough to disagree with someone without disparaging them.

    matter dropped.
  20. #20
I've never jumped on anyone for posting about products that aren't ready. What I find frustrating are posts that are effectively press releases from other companies without any further info. So, I read your thing about emoze... I want to try it... And I find out that it's not really available. The net result is that I've wasted my time.

If you post as you did and say, "I checked this out, and it looks interesting though it's not yet available", at least it's clear that you're adding value (i.e. your own work on the subject). Just cutting and pasting doesn't have the same value to the community as it would if it came with some additional info.

    Just my opinion.

    Marc
