if i perform a hard reset on my TREO 650, i know it'll erase all the files in the phone. but if i hotsync it before i reset and perform another hotsync after reset, will i have all the information and files like i had before i resetted?

    yes.

A few things don't make it back, but they are minor, like Blazer bookmarks.

Another way is to use a sd card backup program. I use Resco backup.

Most things come back on hot sync tho some peeps have managed to have Treo overwrite the desktop and wiped out everrything. Best bet is a back solution to your SD card...something like BackupbuddyVFS.

If you keep the Blazer Bookmarks .pdb and email it to yourself, you get those back as well.

To avoid that make a copy of your profile in the Palm folder in case it gets over written.

This lists the files in RAM and their equivalent in the Backup directory on the PC. Those without a copy in the Backup directory in the PC (like Unsaved Preferences) will be lost (not restored on Hotsync) after a hard reset unless you use 3rd party backup software.

I normally get absolutely everything back using the hotsync method, but it depends on the software you are using. For example, I have to reinstall Java if I ever have it installed before the hard reset (not using it now).

VoiceDialing by VoiceSignal is another one of those applications that have to be reinstalled.

BTW, I wonder what happened to the vaunted VoiceDial update that some were talking about a few weeks back ...
