I doubt it. A lot of services have a "push to talk" feature now, but they aren't as widespread as the Nextel service. Most people don't want to spend extra money for this walkie-talkie feature, when you can call the person just as easily. Will this be something that will be big in the future? I personally don't think so, but that doesn't mean that it won't. As for right now, I wouldn't count on a "push to talk" feature, but be pleasantly surprised if one does surface.

I call sprint up every so often to ask if I can order a 700p yet, and recently, I've had 4-5 reps tell me they're no longer gonna get the 700p, but the 750 instead within the next 4 months. Personally, I believe this is bull, but has anyone heard anything about this? I mean, I tell them I had a preprod 700p on sprint a couple months ago, and they stick to their guns.

I hope it's not either, I really think it's bull**** and the reps don't know what they're talking about. But corraborating information deserves attention, which is why I ask whether anyone else has heard of this.

2 of the reps I spoke to today actually believed the 700p would be available this week, but they then told me they hadn't heard that officially.
  6. #106
<merged> No offence Merlyn_3D, but your thread falls within the OPs original premise, although it is not a 700p but hits the "HAVE YOU TALKED TO A REP/FRIEND" portion.

Since the 700p is still considered (by Palm and others - t?????????, g?????? and d??????? - jk only ) as non-existent, maybe this is just one of those know-it-all sprint rep that did not get the memo.
  7. #107
I blame Palm for much of this rampant speculation. They never actually mentioned after the 700w was released, how much later they would be releasing a Palm OS version(if at all). All they said was they didn't abandon Palm OS users. Empty words so far.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

    No go...

Cingular's PTT is hardware-based, unlike Orange's software system. The software ones connect via data, and there've been latency issues; the hardware-based ones don't have that problem.

So, we may see it in future Treos (if Cingular has enough business-based demand for that capability in a smartphone).

I imagine your brief experience with the 700p would prove me wrong, but I still have problems believing any version of Frankengarnet can truly support multiple high speed radios. If I were Palm, I'd relegate Frankengarnet to the Lowrider type series of entry smartphones (think "Z" series) and concentrate on "W" and "PalmX" or whatever Linux they bake to carry the high end (think "TX" series). All this secrecy, but all the stories over in the delivery date thread about Palm hunting down any info, pictures, pre-release information on the Treo 700p as if it were an escaped convict lead me to believe they're reeling in expectations on the 700p because they don't have anything to deliver.

Besides, with HTC pumping out WM5 smartphones and phone edition units at a startling rate, what is the remaining capacity for the "new" Treo release?

Actually, due to technical constraints and the merger of Sprint and

being sorted out and you will very soon notice new phones in the market.

So, be assured and give us a little more time till we bring in lots of

I cannot believe a Sprint rep would give out such info before the company or Palm announce it. And, to beat and dead horse, you're a newbie. Nothing personal.

But come mid April when you look at Sprint's web site and see the 700i you will owe me a big "I am sorry" and then you can buy me one to make up for it.
