    Hi all,

I am going to CA for a week. I would like to avoid taking my laptop with me as I have a Treo 650. Should I sign up for MobiTV or something? I will need to access ebay and a few other sites. My email seems to be cool with Snappermail. I'm sure veteran Treo users have done something like this before, so I would love to hear experiences (both positive and negative) and any other advice and suggestions! Should I sign up for any other services, for example? Are there any particular applications that I should download, etc.?

    Thanks so much!

Unless you need to do heavy spreadsheet or Power Point work while you are gone, the Treo is an excellent "stay in touch" device.

Phone, text, email, MSWord & MSExcel viewing and input, Internet browsing. The only reason to take a laptop is if you are going to heavy document/spreadsheet/presentation edit or creation work.

    Just my opinion.

    Cheers, Perry.

During my 3 most recent trips (home to Hawaii for a week, Manhatten for a long weekend and Florida for a long weekend) I left the laptop at home and used the Treo for everything. Email was the most important element for me and with ChatterEmail I was well connected.

For business information searches and directions, I used both Directory Assistant and Kmaps, worked great.

For the few business documents I needed to process (mostly Excel), Documents to Go did everything I needed.

During my Florida trip, the the wife and I visited Disney's Animal Kingdom. During a break, I signed into Southwest's website and did an online check-in for our flight home (before their new mobile site existed). Because I was able to do this at the start of the 24hr online check-in process, I was able to get the coveted "A" boarding passes. When I got back to the hotel, I had the front desk print the passes up for me.

You mentioned your need for eBay access. Use http://wap.ebay.com It will allow you to sign into your My eBay account for bidding, searching and watching your auctions.

Take the chance, leave the heavy laptop behind and learn just how dynamic your Treo can be.

I'm not a cigarette guy either, but I'll join you anytime on that drive-by smoke.

I may have to keep a pack in my car, just in case...

Ah, some of my favorites. I love the Hemingways and the Chateau Fuentes. By the way, I had the pleasure of meeting Carlos Fuente in LA a few years back.

You'll be fine, you may wish to get a keyboard though.

My Treo 700w replaced my laptop completely (I'm sure the 650 could as well)... I sold the laptop since I never used the thing, the phone did anything I needed to do while mobile.

    Where smoking is still allowed.
Technological superiority has never won a product battle. If that were the case we would all be flying in supersonic Concordes and using Apple computers.

The key to winning the battle is a combination of price, convenience, marketing, sound business model and a bit of luck.

I take my laptop just as a backup, but then sometimes I just prefer the larger screen.
