I'm sure this has been covered before, but I didn't find anything really recent, so I'm gonna ask...

Not trying to start a "Holy War" here, but can anyone weigh-in on the best Backup Utilities for Treo 650? I'm a "power user", but also realistic.

Optimally, something that is thorough and quick, [semi-]automatic, and restores can be anything from "FULL" to some very granular level (i.e. a single file or app or something). Price is also something to consider, but less important than the functionality and stability of the util.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You should look at Resco Backup, BackupBuddy, and BackupMan. All do what you want and people have their favorites. I have used all three on various Palm devices over the years. Currently I use Resco which is flexible, quick and roubst. Do a search here for any of those names and you'll find a lot of opinions.

I agree...Resco has a 14 day trial, BackupBuddy 15, BackupMan 7, Botzam Backup 30 (the one I use)...I am sure there are a few more out there. I recommend you take advantage of the trial period and you play with them.

I had problems with both Backup Buddy and Backup man, one of which required a hard reset to fix.

Resco backup is smooth and comepletely trouble free

March 25th should be recent enough

I use BackUpBuddyVFS, had the Combo pack but found the windows part a bit of trouble when doing ROM upgrades. If you don't remember to switch conduits OFF / ON during procedure it can mess things up. The one that backs up to the SD card is great. BlueNomad is also running a beta on a web based version which you may wanna try.

I use backupman and have never had a problem with it. It has saved my behind many times.

I've recently (in the past 2 weeks) tried all 3 of these.

Resco Backup is the best bet for me. Backup Buddy and BackupMan both caused intermittent resets, which I didn't have before.

Five days of Resco Backup and no resets. All three programs do pretty much the same thing. Resco is flexible and does full or incremental backups. You can set it to backup at a specified day(s) and time, before/after a hotsync, closing a program, etc.

Try all three and see which works best for you. They all have free trials. Which is one of the best things about Palm app designers. They do understand that not all the programs play well together, so folks aren't locked into buying something before trying it. What a concept!

The newest Backupman has these features as well. If you use the one that is launched after closign the program, check out Dummy. It's a great little utility to launch a backup!

Resco for me... I loved it's compression option, it being able to allow incremental UPDATING of a back-up, and file per file restore if desired... and THE BEST at its price.

I bought it bundled with Resco Explorer (and Explorer is an IMPRESSIVE File manager)
Now it's the WAITING GAME: a GSM Palm Pre
    T680 (COPPER) + Cingular = FUN!!
    My T650 & 6230b and NX70 are retired... =(

The link for Resco Backup is in MarkY's post above (#2). Their site contains a pretty good table comparing the various backup options.

    This is Resco Explorer
It implements complete file management, selected launcher features, zipper, image viewer, backup etc. You get in one package a handset of tools that used to be scattered in various applications.

Do you know what backup program can restore the Java files? Backupman nor Right Backup nor Resco Backup (or Resco Explorer) can.

    Thank you.
