I am looking for a Palm/Pocket PC device with a keyboard for a work project.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to make them anymore except for smartphones.

Will there be any problems using an unlocked 650 without a sim card?

    yes, it would not function.

None of the PDA's interest you? get one with BT and BT keyboard?
    IF you don't mind looking at oldermodels: a Clie NX73 or NX80? or even a UX50 (wifi/BT & keyboard)

Built in keyboards... Sony Palms... nice models... you could possibly find them on ebay for <$200.

HTH, perhaps others may have other suggestions...
Now it's the WAITING GAME: a GSM Palm Pre
    T680 (COPPER) + Cingular = FUN!!
    My T650 & 6230b and NX70 are retired... =(

It should function as a PDA but will not function as a phone or data exchange device (e-mail / web).

Correction... it would not function *as a phone*.

If you are interested only in the PDA functions, then a Treo 650 without a SIM will work just fine.

    Treo 650 - Cingular GSM
    Software:Treo650-1.20-ENA
    Firmware:01.71

Yeah, a lot of phones won't do ANYTHING without a SIM, the Treo 650 however will fully function, just no phone features.

If you look around, you might be able to pick up a Tungsten C cheaply - even second hand. It's a great device, with a keyboard, WiFi, and 64MB RAM (around 56MB free, compared to 23-24MB on the Treo 650.

I'd personally go with a TX and get a wireless keyboard. Perhaps you don't have the luxury of having a place to set the keyboard though. I think I've seen little thumb-board keyboards for some PDAs....maybe you could look into them.
