I have a prism...no commander...and have had no problems(so far) with xmaster. The lines of font (names of the hacks) print over each other so you can't read them. but it clears once you tap on the name. I think I had a screen fix hack of sometype that didn't work I couldn't remember what it did anyway so I just removed it.

There have been a discussion going on in Japan about problems with X-Master. There are a few different versions of X-Master depending on when you downloaded it. If you go to "about", it shows different dates(even though they are all Version 1.0). The one I have is dated 20-1-2001, but if you download now it's 27-1-2001. Also there was another version dated 24-1-2001. The one from 24th is really strange...it says "ExMan" instead of "X-Master." This version seems to have lots of problems, and many people had to do hard resets. Also some people have said X-Master does not ask whether to re-install all the hacks after resets.

This site has screen shots of different versions.

Wonder a disgrunted ex-employee hacked their site & posted "ExMan"

I first installed TealMaster, deleated HackMaster, then installed X-Master. So far I haven't have problems with mine. I'm still debating whether to switch to the latest version since the current one is working....I have

    AdrJRouter Hack
    Beam Switch for Addr.
    DA Launcher
    LaunchMenu
    ScreenShot Hack

Dude! You are sooo timely! Right after I posted that I hadn't had any problems...I had some problems. I don't know if they were xmaster or not,but I didn't take any chances. Rather than use the delete function I used the file mover that comes on the 8 mb module, and deleted xmaster. I definitely had that exman thing going.

I'm thinking I might give it another try since I have some difficulty hitting the correct squished line in hackmaster.

    thanks!

I also had problems with X-Master, but can say that I've had absolutly no problems with TealMaster. I really like the interface and the extra information you get with that product. Although "Free" is sometimes nice, I'd pay the $9.95 for the stability and nicer interface of TM. Just my opinion.

TealMaster is no longer beta. They just released 1.0.1 on Friday. I think I'll give it a try.

X-master caused my Visor to crash every time I tried to set the speeds of individual applications in Afterburner. Changed back to Hackmaster and no problem any more.

In addition, X-matser is visibly slower than Hackmaster.

It's been rereleased by Michael McCollister (of McRazor fame) as McPhling. Lots of bug fixes and improvements (and most importantly, still free ).

    it claims to have ...
fixed Visor incompatibilities (our sincere apologies to all Visor users who suffered weird crashes with 1.0!)

Abort!! Abort!!! Wave Off! Eject!! Eject!!!

Stay away from X-Master! Just DON'T GO THERE!!! Thanks to X-Master I lost all my stuff. Only 2 hacks installed, no Afterburner or Overclocking software installed. HackMaster has been around and has thousands of people using it with little or no problem. If it aint broke, don't fix it. If you install this crap software, I WILL say I TOLD YOU SO!!!

the intial release of x-master was buggy to say the least. Pre v1.1 versions were not compatible with the Visor - LinkeSoft acknowledged this by promptly issuing a warning across the top of their site telling all visor users not to install.

Now I'm a relative newbie to palm and love the idea of certain hacks so I went to investigate. Here's my experiences:

    Hackmaster (3 attempts)
    1. total seizure of VPL requiring hard reset and data loss (only FixANFindHack installed)
    2. see above - this time with only phlegm hack 1.3!
    3. success with phlegm hack 1.4 pre-release but repeated soft resets with any other hacks....

    X-Master (2 attempts)
    1. Installed 1.0 fine, all hacks I tried worked, but required a soft reset on each hot sync. Checked LinkeSoft site heeded the warning and uninstalled...
    2. Version 1.1 released (see previous posts). 2 days later all seems well, hack list expanding...

    TealMaster (1 attempt)
    1. All seemed fine functionally, but all those register reminders, come on I don't need that. I'll try and if I like I'll buy. I don't need to be told I'm still on a try-out at every turn.

Yes I know you'll say I told you so if/when it fails but I'm still alive to fight another day. I'm sure others have a different experience with various hacks & hackmasters - I'm not backing any just sharing experiences. Hey lets not slate a company who seem to respond to bug reports, issues appropriate warnings, then releases a (touch wood) fix within the week. We all praised the guys at BlueNomad for their responsiveness I say here's to LinkeSoft for giving it a damn good go...

OK, so maybe "crap software" is a bit harsh. So maybe I should comment on their releasing a product without testing it? Come on folks, the Visor has been around for over a year now and has a large market share. Developers should TEST on this platform as well as a regular palm BEFORE releasing. To release and come back and say "Oh wait, sorry about your data. It won't work on YOUR palm platform" is just plain unacceptable.

This is a HACK product which has a great potential to cause problems. That means the company developing it should be MORE concerned with testing COMPLETELY before releasing the product. Shame on this company for releasing a product like this before it was ready. I don't care if it is free.

Slacker...did you have that problem with version 1.1?

I tried version 1.0. Not only did it destroy my Prism data, but I also had to nuke my desktop profile in order to restore hotsync functionality. I reloaded everything by hand one program at a time. If you guys think there is any way I am loading another version of their product you are sadly mistaken.

For the record: Slacker is not stupid.

Well, they said themselves that 1.0 had a problem with Visors, so I don't see that as any surprise.

Well, sure, that's understandable, but bad-mouthing a product that company is already well aware does not work with a Visor and that said company even went as far to publicly announce said fact is a little much, IMHO.

As for re-installing each app one-by-one, for future reference, you could just make a back-up copy of your USER folder every so often. Then, if you ever need to to a hard reset, you just move one of your archived back-ups back into the user folder and it will put everything else back onto your Visor. You may want to get a program like BackupAll (Free) to make sure ALL apps are set to back-up by default.

X-Master 1.0 totally nuked my VDX too, but the backup mod restored it no prob. 1.1 has behaved so far. It was a big oversight to issue a version that was so unstable on Visors, but Andreas responded quickly and fixed it. Linkesoft is great.

BTW, there's a posting on Palmstation by Ed Keyes, saying that he still plans to release HM2, which will have a much improved hack protocol. No, I don't have the link, so you'll just have to search for it...

I use POSE (the palm OS emulator) the one for the VISOR PRISM, I usually test all applications on POSE first. (I try to keep the same apps on POSE as I have on my real Prism)

    Just a suggestion..

I run QuickBits and AfterBurner III on my Prism. I also have 8MB Flash Module. I have been having a large number of Fatal Errors and have even had Hard Resets occur without any warning.

After much testing, I attribute these Fatal Errors to TealMaster. Even after doing hard resets and doing a fresh installs of TealMaster, it immediately gives a Fatal Error if I activate AfterBurner III. It does not look like TealMaster is that compatible with HackMaster.

I am now using X-Master. I have not had any problems so far.
