    Hey all,

I just installed an bunch of apps and the sync went fine. I aimlessly clicked on some of them and they all did what they were supposed to do. Except for one. The problem is that I forget which one...When I first clicked on it, it immediately reset the Treo and put my Treo in a continuous reset loop, so I was forced to do a hard reset. I tried ripping the battery out for a few mins, same result. Luckily, I had just done a HotSync before. However, that also synced that app back onto the Treo. At least, now it works to the extent that I can make and receive calls, my call log is back, etc. Basically, everything works EXCEPT WHENEVER I hit the menu button to access all of my apps, it resets again. I can hit ANY key, EXCEPT the menu key.

Oh boy, now what? Is there any way to manipulate what I synced and maybe do another hotsync, so it won't sync that app??? Being that I don't know what it was, that's probably difficult, if not impossible.

At any rate, this kind of thing must have happened to someone before. Is there any way to save my apps? Is there any way to make the menu key accessible again, so that I can delete the app.? I'll recognize it if I can only get to that screen! Please help!

Well, Others may have a more simpler solution but the best one I can think of is to do the following:

    A. Do a Hard Rest

    B. Go to the Palm Folder on your computer, find the Backup folder and remove all the files. Do not delete them, just move them to another folder.

    C. Sync the Handheld. This will force it to go back to factory like settings.

    D. Reinstall your apps one at a time from the files you moved from the back up folder, when you find those files. Test each file when you install them and you will see which one it is.

Another solution would be to just do a hard reset and resync but go to the backup folder and delete those files that you last installed and then install them one at a time.

    Good luck

THANK YOU!!! It worked. However, I deleted them, in effect moving them to the recycle bin and then tried to restore them thinking they'd be restored to their original folders. Turns out that's not the case. Dumba$$ me was too lazy to use a different folder. I don't even care about the lost apps. I got my notes and contacts back BUT how do I get my call log back??? Where is that??? That would be really important. Damned...I am SO mad at myself.

By the way, simply putting chatter.prc back to the backup folder didn't sync it back to the Treo.

I want my call log....ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Please tell me it's not lost.

Maybe too late this time, but I HIGHLY recommend Resco Backup. I keep two, one that I know is clean and the other that updates daily...

I would have recommended a WARM RESET.
Push UP on the 5-way key and then reset... It's like booting into windows in safe mode... then using FILEZ or a similar program to DELETE the newly installed apps...

THEN, reset again and see if the Treo is back and working again.

I use Resco Backup... for cases like this. BEFORE I hotsync new apps I BACK-up... because if ANYTHING does happen (as in your case a reset-loop) i can HARD RESET and then just restore my T650...

and yes I've had to hard reset and yes I have had to restore my T650...
Now it's the WAITING GAME: a GSM Palm Pre
    T680 (COPPER) + Cingular = FUN!!
    My T650 & 6230b and NX70 are retired... =(

This little freeware baby has saved my **** in these type of circumstances many, many times:

    http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/resetemu.shtml

It has you reboot into safe mode, then activates each application one-at-a-time. It will usually bomb out on the corrupted/bad one, and will give you a notice after it comes back up. Works great, and the price is right.
Treo 755s in good condition available on ebay for $50-$75. No need to pay for insurance or buy a Pre.

and the lessons to be gainer here are:

    1. Install Uninstall Manager as your very first application.
    2. Never install more than 1 app per hotsync
    3. A backup program is invaluable.
    4. CrashPro will log ya crashes and tell ya what one caused it.

First with Backup Buddy on the Treo 600 and BackupMan on my 650.... can't emphasize enough... don't depend solely on HotSync to backup your Treo!!! I would have been in deep doo if I had.

If you don't back up you're living on the edge

How do I get my call log back??? And now some clicking noise has arisen on this phone whenever the screen turns off. I had that happen last fall with FIVE DIFFERENT replacements when I went back to this one and this one, until now, HAD NEVER DONE IT. I can't believe this.
