I want to add the clasic AOL "you've got mail" sound to my Sapper for the alert. I have successfully added by email a wav. file of that and it shows up in my sounds so I can use it as a system alert or ringtone.

But, it seems that Snapper uses its own database of sounds, as it does not show up on the list when I try to pick it from Snapper in the prefs section under alert. i tried a soft reset thinking that might cause to show up in the list, but to no avail.

Does anyone know if and/or how I could perform this task?

    Thanks in advance.

Good question! Why do I have the feeling we are going to get lots of "you should use Chatter" type answers?

well, I love Snapper, it works great, it solid as a rock, and it fits my needs.

    anyone? Any snapper power users??

There's a couple of forum posts on this (too lazy to dig up URLs) but basically the short answer is:

    1) You can't.
    2) You can use Butler to intercept/handle the Alerts from Snapper to generate a new message sound via MP3/WAV/TON

    Cesium,

no problem about the urls. I appreciate the input. Running Butler already so will look in to how folks have done this in the past. Now that I know Butler is involved, maybe my serarche will be more fruitful.

    thanks again.

Hey no problem, glad to help. Here is one of the threads I was referring to:

    I am testing Chatter out,
the new added sound files show up fine with chatter, unlike snapper,
and am currently using the "you've got mail" file.

Butler didn't really work because I wanted that file only for emails and I wanted to use a different alert for the attention grabber.
