Let this post serve as a warning. While your experience may vary, I feel I’d be remiss if I didn’t share the awful experience I had with Performancepda.com. If I’d heard similar experiences I might not have ordered from them at all. I’m not saying that anyone else (let alone everyone else) has experienced what I did. But I want this info out there for people to consider.

Here’s the story. My Treo 650 developed the (surprisingly common) stuck “p” key. If you’ve ever had a key stuck on your Treo you know what a PITA it is to use in that state.

Through posting and searching here I was referred to performancepda.com as a vendor of both replacement keyboards and the required torx 5 wrench.

Seemed simple enough, so I placed my order, got a confirmation email and waited. And waited. And waited. After about a week I got another email containing very little info which basically said my order was completed. Huh? I called my credit card company and I had indeed been charged.

I sent an email requesting an update. Where was my order? Where’s the tracking number? Nothing. The next day I sent two emails. Then I called. No answer, nor answering machine – despite calling during business hours. I tried several times throughout the day. Nothing.

The next day I sent three emails, this time threatening to deny the charge on my card. Well that finally got a response out of them as you can imagine.

Magically a response appeared with a USPS tracking number which in turn indicated that the package had been delivered that very day. Except for one problem – it wasn’t delivered that day. I work from home and the mail came and went that day without any package.

And oh by the way the USPS tracking system provides no information about the shipper, intended recipient, or delivered-to address. It just tells you it was delivered at a certain time on a certain date. So there’s really no way to prove that the tracking number I was provided had anything to do with my actual package.

I had to send three more emails to performancepda.com asking what they were going to do about solving this issue before getting a response. Here’s the response I finally got, and I quote:

“our item was shipped to the address that you provided to us as below. And
the post office delivered. You should ask the post office.”

How’s that for customer “service”? I order tons of stuff online, enough to know that this sort of thing happens from time to time, and enough to know what the right thing for the vendor to do is. Any reputable company would have immediately sent a replacement order and taken it up with the shipper themselves (since pretty much without exception it’s the job of the sender to file any claim with the shipper).

But I’m taking it up with the USPS because performancepda.com has left me no choice. And if the post office can’t help me or won’t reimburse me then I’m denying the charge.

I’ve never had the misfortune of dealing with such a lackadaisical, uncaring, unprofessional organization. Consider this a warning. Deal with performancepda.com at your own risk.

I have never had problems with purchases from them but I agree the CS stinks!

I requested to buy a Motherboard and after many emails, I was asked why I needed it. They never offered me one for sale, but after a couple of months started to offer them to the public.

Still need some motherboards, but they sell them as-is. Anyone have a good experence from them please let us know.

Yeah it's weird but as is often the case if you just get what you paid for when you expect to get it then you never have to deal with customer service which is where the men are separated from the boys. All's well until there's a problem!

I ordered a motherboard, keyboard, and a set of buttons from them. The motherboard works, but the keyboard light doesn't work and the 5-way button is defective. They said to ship them back and they will replace them. I'll let you know how it goes. . .

The motherboard I got from them seemed to work fine - the lights, bluetooth and camera all functioned correctly. It took a good couple of weeks for them to ship it (never got a tracking number), but it arrived and worked as expected.

This is the frustrating part in my mind - terrible communication. Of course it's made even worse when you don't get the merchandise you ordered as in my case.

I filed a report with the USPS who is looking into it but I have no idea how responsive they are (compared to say Fedex or UPS). We'll see. I'm just really pissed at the way performancepda has basically washed its hands of the problem and in essence told me to go screw.

I got your board a little while ago, thanks! I baked off all the components to try to track down the JTAG points and have a pretty good idea of where they are now. Still need to pull out the soldering iron and test them out, however.

Just to close the loop on this, the post finally office delivered my keyboard and torx5 wrench today from performancepda.com. I was able to successfully replace the keyboard and bring everything into working order (though I did scratch the case unfortunately).

As for performancepda.com, while it turns out that they did in fact send out the merchandise, they did so late, and worse, provided ZERO after sales support when I had trouble with the shipping. I would not do business with them again.

More than happy to say, when someone does something well. Great, also, to have the chance to warn others when someone doesn't.

Ordered a couple of antenna plugs, from performancepda, a couple of weeks ago. While paying for the things, I mis-spelled my street name. You know, the one they carefully compare to the billing address on each credit card. (Their site notifies that, if the "Ship to" and "Billing" addresses don't match, your order may be delayed, or even denied.)

When I emailed 'em about the problem, their only response was that I was the one, who had made the mistake. Well, duh.

Pretty arrogant, considering they'd fallen down on the confirmation portion of their program. Wasn't happy about their curt reply, but decided that it had, after all, been my initial mistake. Told 'em of these cute, little, feelings, when I ordered the second set. Their response was, basically, "Oh well."

This was a low-dollar purchase. However, my experience with these people has taught me not to risk anything more than a few dollars, when dealing with their company.

If you do deal with this company, I would hope everything goes well with your order. Otherwise, know that customer service, at performancepda, is just a platform for them to be abusive. Don't expect anything more from 'em.

I also had an awful experience with performancepda.com!!!

What an absolute JOKE of a "company". I actually live in Atlanta and wanted to swing by his office, and pay cash for a few parts I needed for my 650. Long story short, he NEVER answers the phone number he provides on the site, and NEVER returns phone calls. He finally replied to one of my many emails, and his reply was "call the number".
This is guy is a lame excuse for a business.

    Here's the good new though...

While looking to buy a Treo 650 on eBay for parts, I found a gentleman who was advertising an auction for Treo repair. I took a chance and emailed him and asked if he would be willing to sell me some replacement parts. He emailed back and said no problem.
Paid him through PayPal and he shipped overnite.

I received a "brand new" replacement keyboard circuit board in 1 business day - and he threw in a housing screw for me.
$35 for the board and overnite shipping!!! Great deal, performancepda wants $37 for the board plus shipping, and from what I've heard it takes him about 2 weeks to ship anything ( and most of his stuff is used )

This guy is super nice, and trustworthy. I asked him if he would mind if I gave his info out for some other folks looking for replacement parts - he said no problem.

His name is Harold and his email address is hscarp@prismlink.net

So after months of trying to find a keyboard circuit board and not wanting to buy a Treo for parts on eBay I finally have my Treo back and working great.

Hope this helps someone else looking for Treo parts...
Let me know what you guys find out.

    Here's my PerformancePDA Story...

About 3 months ago, I blew my speakerphone speaker on my 650. I placed an order on their website, for the replacement, and a wrench. In another part of their website, I think I found a typo, which basically gave me the impression that I needed a "different" sized wrench to do the job. I e-mailed them, and asked if I ordered the correct wrench (and mentioned the web page that indicated I needed a different one).

Within a day, they did respond.. the response was pretty short and to the point, but said "Yes, you ordered the right one".

About a week later, the package did arrive, and the replacement of the speaker went just fine.

So, in my particular case, I must admit I was happy with them shipping what I ordered in a timely manner. I can see where people's complaints about their lack of "customer service" are justified. Although they answered my e-mail question to them, their response contained about 5 words, and was kind of terse (No "thank you for your business" or anything). It gave me the impression that I was happy not to have to ask them any more questions.

I do think its odd that they only offer US postal service shipping options, and not UPS/Fedex. Although the buyer can add "Insurance" to the shipping, I'm sure that trying to "get your money back", should a package not arrive, would be a major pain in the rear.

I would like to know if anyone in their local area has actually seen their "retail store and warehouse" (http://performancepda.com/company.html)

I simply want to chime in and say that I have had multiple, positive experiences with the folk(s) at PerformancePDA. In the past 4 months, I have ordered multiple housings and other parts to repair friends Treos. Yes, the service is not the most responsive, but all parts I have ordered have been delivered promptly and without any damages whatsoever.

I have searched all over, both little sites like PerformancePDA and bigger sites like eBay, and honestly it is not easy to find someone who sells what you want, has terrific prices, has excellent customer service, and is someone you would recommend.

Would I buy from PerformancePDA again? Yes, because they have been good to me thus far. Would I recommend them to a friend? No, because I not not think there is a consistent track record with them.

I am going home to ATL for Christmas and was thinking about paying them a visit to see if I could pick up some more parts. It is a little north of Atlanta, but not so far as to make the trip unjustifiable. If I go, I will post my experiences...

I wouldn't waste your time trying to go by the retail store. I went on numerous occassions and at different times on different days - never anyone there. Finally the last visit a store owner next door was coming back from lunch and I asked her if the owner (of pdaperformance) was ever there, she smiled and said no- never. And then said he was in the process of moving and closing the store.
    Just FYI...

Interesting.. I half expect that one of these days, we'll find out the whole company is being run by some 16 year old kid from his bedroom.

... and the saddest part, is that he's probably grossing a half a million each year
