I have no problem getting my versamail mail or SMS alerts while using USB modem. I can also confirm that packets are paused while the phone call is in progress. It sends but does not rx. After the phone call is finished the rx packets resume. Bluetooth phonecalls are possible while connected, there is no conflict with BT DUN. I second this statement--> "If it could handle automatically disconnecting the connection on startup"

    This software rocks.

BTW if anyone is interested in purchasing USBModem, ($24.95), PalmGear is selling Meteor Breakout for $14.95 and with the purchase, you get a free software from Mobile Stream(one of: Jackpot Casino, Mobile Jigsaw, Landscape, Portrait, Rotation, Card Reader, USB Modem or FullPower)

    Link:

I am not affiliated with PalmGear/Mobile Stream in any way other than a satisfied customer...

I tried the hack, which connected great, but would drop the connection if not active after a couple minutes (using with a Mac powerbook/ OS 10.4). I just tried USB Modem (after removing the hack), but I can't get it to connect at all via bluetooth (which is really all I'm interested in... slower speed, but plenty adequate, and no wires). The mac is set on their modem driver... not sure why it won't connect....

Do you need the tethered mode hack with this program?

So if I use this without the tethered mode hack, Sprint won't know I'm using it as a modem?

I've just installed this program on a Macbook Pro, working perfectly (and impressively fast) using a USB tether. I'm like the above person, and would like to get it to work on Bluetooth (even if slower). Anyone know how? The documentation says it is not documented yet, but seems to imply that it is functional.

I keep getting registration failures. I know I have the correct login and password. I connect without a problem, but after three seconds of connection, I get kicked off. Any ideas?

    Testing before purchasing....

I have a Treo 600 with Wireless Internet enabled by T-Mobile in the USA. I can use the Web browser and POP client from the Treo.

I am trying to use it as a modem for my MacBook Pro laptop. I have downloaded v1.42 of the Mobile-Stream USB Modem software and have installed it successfully. I have turned 'PPP echo packets' and 'TCP header compression' both OFF.

I have configured my Mac to dial '*99***1#' with account name 'guest', password 'guest'. When I dial, I manually enter APN 'internet2.voicestream.com'.

I get what appears to be a successful connection to 10.190.29.0, and am assigned a TCP/IP address of 10.190.29.XXX (most recently, XXX=84). The log shows I have been assigned a primary DNS address of 66.94.25.120. Internet Connect on the Mac shows that I am sending data successfully...

...BUT... I never receive any data at all. Internet Connect and Activity Monitor agree... zero bytes received.

Any idea what is going on? I'm SO CLOSE to having this working!!!

(PS -- I have tried 'internet3.voicestream.com' instead of 'internet2'. I have tried dialling '*99#' and '*99###2#'. I have tried leaving account name and password blank instead of 'guest'. None of those variations work.)

    Help!

I have a Palm 700p on Sprint (PowerVision w/o PAM plan) w/USB Modem 1.42 working on a MacBook Pro in tethered mode. To get untethered BT DUN capabilities, look for Fofer's posting in this thread:
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=115574

Caveat: The above link leads to a tethered hack (which is ironic, BT is untethered). Getting BT DUN to work does not require paying for USB Modem (although I certainly think the program is worth it).

If anyone gets USB modem to enable BT DUN on Mac OS X without a tethered hack, I would like to see your results. It looks like USB modem with BT is only supported on the Treo 650, the 700p will be supported later according to the docs:
"Bluetooth support for Treo 700p will be implemented in the next versions."

So far for me (tethered hack) BT DUN, tethered USB modem, and Palm apps like Chatter email can all co-exist with no conflicts (of course, with one owning the data call at a time).

I'm using it now, trial version. Seems to work fine. I chose it because I don't have the desktop client on this pc and didn't want to install it. Speeds are pretty slow though, I've maxed out at 214k. Otherwise, so far so good.

    I stand corrected:

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-06-25 19:05:06 EST:
    577 / 99
    Your download speed : 577 kbps or 72.2 KB/sec.
That is 22.7% better than an average user on spcsdns.net

    Your upload speed : 99 kbps or 12.4 KB/sec.
That is 45.5% better than an average user on spcsdns.net
