    Hello everyone!

I have a Treo 650 that I have been using happily for quite some time. Just recently (about a week ago) my versamail started to reset the phone when I try to send a message or forward a message. I can recieve just fine and I can reply just fine. I use versamail with my company's Exchange Active Sync to sync my calendar and email and this has become INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING! Any help or suggestions would be GREATELY APPRECIATED. Some info on the phone and things I have tried so far:

    1) Sprint Treo 650 1.13a
    2) I have tried a hard reset
    3) I have tried deleting the VersaMail acount and restarting it
    4) I have tried the palm site KB article 36541
    5) I had the unit itself swapped out today

Please let me know if anyone has heard of this issue or how to deal with it. It seems to me that it crashes when it tries to access my phone directory to look up names.

    Thanks again!

    Bill,

checking and replying is NOT a problem.

It is when I send or forward that the issue comes up.

I just spent 2 hours with tier 2 sprint support deleting palm desktop, reinstalling, deleting versamail, reinstalling, etc. and nothing... it still resets when I try to send or forward.

Sorry, I didn't read your post that closely. Are you saying that it crashes the moment you select Send or Forward...or does it happen during the process of VM sending/forwarding the message?

As soon as I go to the "TO:" address field and start to type any letter it resets the phone.

Does the same thing happen if you tap TO: in a reply? If so, it sounds like a corrupt Contacts file.

    Try this:
    1. Backup your device; specifically, make sure that you've backed up the ContactsDB-PAdd file.
    2. Use FileZ to delete the ContactsDB-PAdd file from RAM
    3. Launch the Contacts app; this will create a new empty Contacts database
    4. Add a new contact with an email address
    5. Launch Versamail, create a new message, tap To: and use that email address

    Does that work?

    Bill,

That solved the problem.... You are the MAN!

Now how do I "un-corrupt" my contact file? I have over 4000 contacts on there!?

    Thanks!

    Try this:
    1. Delete ContactsDB-PAdd again
    2. Launch the Contacts app to create a fresh db
    3. Right click the Hotsync Manager icon in the program tray on your desktop, choose Custom and change the action of the Contacts conduit to "Desktop overwrites handheld".
    4. Hotsync.

    Tried it.

It synced everything and then when I went back to VersaMail it crashed.

I had the same problem, and once I upgraded my firmware to 1.13 and did a restore with Backupbuddy, the problem stopped. I had even gone so far as to get Agendus Mail to resolve the "problem", but I much preferred VersaMail (no comments, please!). Don't know if this info will help someone else.....Maybe a reflash is in order?

OK, Syncing your contacts from the desktop to a clean db on the Treo didn't work. Let's try to un-corrupt the Contacts db:

    1. Launch the Palm Desktop and choose Contacts; if you've got any contacts marked private, select Show Private Records from the View menu

    2. Select "Select All" from the Edit menu and then Export from the File menu; choose "Comma Separated" as a format, enter a file name ("Contacts"), select an export location and click the Export button.

    3. Close down Palm Desktop and move the address.dat file found in your /Palm (or Palmone)/<username>/address/ directory to a safe location.

    4. Launch Palm Desktop and choose Contacts; it should be empty. Select Import from the File menu, change "Files of type" to "Comma Separated", select your recently exported contacts file and click Import.

    5. Hopefully all of your Contacts should be imported into the Palm Desktop. Close PD, set the Hotsync action of the Contacts conduit to "Desktop overwrites handheld" and Hotsync.

If these reconstituted contacts still cause a crash in Versamail, you'll have to find the bad record(s) on the desktop:

1a. Open your Contacts.csv (the exported file), copy the first half of the records and paste them into a new file; save it as Contacts1.csv; copy the other half to Contacts2.csv.

2a. Delete the current address.dat in Palm/<username>/address (remember, you saved the original for safe-keeping).

3a. Import Contacts1.csv into the Palm Desktop and Hotsync (contacts = dt overwrites hh).

Does those contacts crash Versamail? If so, repeat steps 2a and 3a with Contacts2.csv. If that works, then we know the bad record(s) are in Contacts1.csv; repeat step 1a with Contacts1.csv (producing Contacts1A.csv and Contacts1B.csv)...etc.
