    ...but only a bit.

I know I'm very much among Treo lovers, and I am one too. All the
same I would like to point out the irritants that are popping-up now
that I am almost 10 days into my relationship with Treo 650.

    1. The ***** power connector... Who was the moron who designed it?
Why does it look and feel so delicate? They messed it up in the 600
and now it is only worse. I put my phone for charging last night and
today morning... NOTHING. I shook the connector and the charging
indicator lit up! This NEVER happened in my Nokia 6650 (that is a cool
    phone, believe me)

It has been pointed out elsewhere that there is something to be learnt
from the Nokia range. EVERY phone from the 1100 to the Communicator
(and possibly the Vertu) have the same charging connector. That is so
cool. You can buy a charger for INR 99 (approx 2 USD). and then throw it
away. You can buy one for each room in the house, your car (one for the
front seats, and one for the rear, of-course), your office, your friends
house... whatever. I can use my grocer's charger and vice-versa if it
becomes necessary. How cool is that?

Damn, palm has TWO (smart) phones in its product line and they don't
    have the same charging connector.

    2. About the USB connector, the less said the better, it keeps coming
loose... Nokia's Pop-port is so much better.

    3. Plainly, the software still has a lot of bugs. I think palm or palmsource
should put some effort into fixing the bugs rather then pushing new
releases and versions (with more buggy features) out the door. I suppose
the current PalmOS version has been around in various forms for more than
four years... Still the latest FW and SW don't work reliably.

The reason I am feeling bugged is, one would expect that simple mechanical
issues and standardization of physical interfaces should have been sorted
out. It would be so much nicer in the long run...

One can only imagine the mess-up they did in the software if the same
(lack of) thinking went into it.

No... I am NOT going back to my Nokia 6650..., but instead, I'll learn to
compromise, adjust and somehow get along with the Treo 650.

I have a miniSync cable and with my REPLACEMENT T650... it's not working... (will have to battle with that a bit)...

BUt what software bugs? We who have RECENTLY received ours hopefully has MOST if not all the early adopter bugs fixed.
**That the OS lacks this or that, well that is another discussion...

What are you using that is causing issues? MOST IMO seem to be 3rd party apps. EVEN THOUGH they may be os5 compatible, they must also be T650 compatible.

I love this phone... have had some interesting errors BUT I back-up and sync regularly so I feel I can afford hard-resets...
Now it's the WAITING GAME: a GSM Palm Pre
    T680 (COPPER) + Cingular = FUN!!
    My T650 & 6230b and NX70 are retired... =(

My phone is stock... Treo 650 Cingular Unlocked FW 1.51 SW Treo650-1.17-CNG
    with the follwing stuff installed:

    SharkMsg
    FileZ
    LEDOff
    KeyCaps600
    pFuel
    RLock
    WatchM

All of the above are freeware.

I've not even installed JVM (IBM *h*t) or DocsToGo or any of the "heavy" software.

My phone does not give me any problems, as such, but there are some irritating
User Interface issues and the above mentioned bugs.

    Hi...

The most important thing in a phone (according to me) is the
incoming and outgoing voice quality. The Treo 650 was/ is poor
in this respect. The current official updater proclaiming that there
are improvements in voice quality shows that Palm admits to
this fact. My benchmark of course is my Nokia 6650. But my
wife's rather inexpensive Panasonic A500 has excellent voice
quality too. (On the aside, the A500 has never required a reboot,
has never been switched off since it was purchased!)

The low volume of the handset and the resounding success of
    VolumeCare everybody knows about.

It is not that the Treo 650 was palm's first cellphone... From the
90 onwards they should have improved in every department. The
most obvious and irritating software bugs should have been ironed
    out by now.

Just imagine if your phone DID NOT allow for replacement of
software. We would have been stuck.

I use a Verizon 650 daily. As far as voice quality goes, I have no trouble at all. Yes, volume is an issue (I use VolumeCare), but the quality of the voice incoming and outgoing is fine. I have never once had anyone say they couldn't hear me or understand me.

And the voice quality (sure does not sound like my nokia) BUT no one complains about not hearing me and I hear everyone pretty well...

Reception? Def not as good as my NOkia 6230b... oh well. I LOVE the phone...

Yeah, we all get used to and adjusted to everything. The point is,
on such an expensive phone (the 3G Nokia 6650 costed me less
    than
1/3rd the Treo 650), one tends to take certain things for
    granted; sound quality for example.

I am not in aposition to judge voice quality as such because I have used the Treo as a headset / speakerphone about 3 or 4 times since I have it and it works as needed at 7/7. I always use it w/ a BT headset with volume at 2/7 and have no complaints. I am not saying the volume issues shouldn't have been better implemented, but I am saying that for my use, it would like complaining about air conditioner performance in my SUV in northern Alaska.....I just don't need to use it that much to make it a significant concern.

nor for its heating system . I held off on a 600 waiting for the 650 as I didn't want to walk around with my hand clasped to my ear or a wire dangling from my ear to shirt pocket. I don't mind the poor heating system in my 930 cause I almost never remember to even turn the heating system in my cars on (27F today) but I would mind if ....say......it handled like a Vette . So long as the Treo does BT headsets well and the car hits cloverleafs like a slot car, I, smilin'
