    Hello all,

So, I finally got the Treo 650 after having lusted for it ever since it
came out... It's a grey market (I'm in India), Cingular, unlocked phone
    with a blue facia.

I did everything by the book...

    1) I immediately rushed home and installed lots freeware and shareware
applications and games... and became disappointed with my purchase
when it rebooted three ("trio") times in five minutes, and froze on an
    incoming call.

    2) I searched for the "unlock" code online (though the phone was
already unlocked and operational on my home network) and entered
some codes that I found on the internet... the result: the phone got
locked again. Still can't figure out why I did that.

    3) I did a hard reset (thanks to all the Treo forums) and that appeared
to get rid of all the gunk software... solitaire, mahjong, docs to go, adobe
    viewer, whatever...

    4) I purchased the unlock code afresh from a website... and then the
    phone started to function properly.

    5) Installed SharkMsg... the main "reason" for purchasing the Treo 650.
Works well, but there appear to be some bugs in it.

    6) Installed RLock... still can't figure out what it does.

    7) Installed LEDOff... (that's pretty silly, since I kind of like the blinking
LED. With the Treo in my pocket, it makes me feel like the president.)

    8) I cut an OHP sheet and made my own "screen protector" with some
online help. I made several for my dad (600) and brother (650) too.
    (Oh! the cheapness.)

    9) Tried the ROMTool several times (posted on this forums) and gave-up
when I got some error or the other (I managed to download from the
Treo, but got an error when I tried to open the file for conversion).

    10) I showed my Treo off to my friends who all think that I am a moron
(India is "Nokia" country) for having wasted my money. Currently, I'm in
a denial and adjustment phase for having spent so much on a "phone"
The news that palm further reduced prices TWO days after my purchase
is not helping my situation one bit.

    11) I'm now reading the manual.

    Future plans:

    - Purchase an SD/ MMC card.
    - Do the CNG->ROW->ENA unbranding upgrade.
    - Do something so that I can listen to music.
    - Migrate to Linux when "that" works out.

Thanks all of you for all the help and comments on this forums.
I look forward to more guidance from you all in future esp. with
    my unbranding upgrade plans.

    mvk

PS: I still think that the Treo 600 had a nicer antenna.

Welcome aboard! and yes, for a predominantly Nokia world, they will be looking at you. It is like using an American car in a country where Honda and Toyota are common.

I noticed that you wrote reading the manual as last. lol

That's a pretty gutsy move for a Treo n00b. Well, welcome to the cult
Why are ringtones always such a big issue? Don't people realize that they're obnoxious!? And why the Nintendo 'Wii'? What th-!?
