Is it possible to upgrade a Sprint phone running 1.13 to a version of 1.20? I've only seen GSM listings... Sprint, of course, runs a CDMA radio.

My current rom is 1.13 stripped with a small handful of utilities included.

1.20 is GSM only. 1.13 is the current Sprint ROM

Copy the following files to the ROM dir:

You have to copy this in the directory where you copied the install files from Palm's updater while in the process of running the updater a Treo Updater directory will appear in your Palm directory (Directory names may/will be different in name but you should get the idea) Once T3.jar is copied (And you have java runtime installed) double click and it will create all the files needed. It will have the acepalmos.zip files but these are unstripped versions. Replace them with the customized files you create.

Hi, thank you for all the valuable information. I have an unbranded 650 with 1.20 ENA that I want to change to 1.20 APR because I am working in China using a local SIM card and want the 1.20 APR for Chinese character support. Reducing ROM size is not a goal here.

I used the ROM tool to change the tokens so I can use the official 1.20 APR updater. Unfortunately just before the ROM update step I ran into the partition size error message that said I have to use the SD update method. Is it true that using the SD method is the only way to go from the ENA partition size to the larger APR partition?

In following the instructions here on the SD update method I couldn't figure out how to go from the *.pdb files that was left after the failed update to the file set that I can store in \ROM on the SD. The T3.jar created an empty zip file when run in the directory where these *.pdb files are.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

I think there is an SD APR Rom already built by James somewhere here at TC that you could Run, and then use the RomTool to Customize to your liking.
See if you can find it and I will look for it also.

Thanks berdinkerdickle for the pointer; I did a search and did find the post by jamesgangut; unfortunately the link has been deleted due to "inactivity timeout has been exceeded".

If James doesn't get back to you,
    here's a Stripped one:
    http://rapidshare.de/files/28552750/...RSION.zip.html
    Run it the SD Method.
Then you should be able to run the Official Updater from Palm:
    http://www.palm.com/hk/ie/support/do...lockedgsm.html
Don't Forget to First use the RomTool to make a backup of your current Rom, so you will have it if any thing goes wrong.

I'm having the APR version Firmware 1.71 and Software 1.20-APR, I used the SD updater method to change the partition size to 8.4 and was successfull, but how do I change APR to ENA ? I was able to update the carrier db to 270 too using james' updated files. Also is there any site with palm file listing including 3rd part apps ?

Forgive me if I misunderstood your question.
Are you saying you want to run ENA instead of APR?
And regarding your second question, if you are looking for a website that has a good selection of 3rd party apps, try Mytreo.net.

    berdinkerdickle,

I did what you described above and SUCCESS! My unbranded 1.20ENA is now based on stock 1.20APR. As a side benefit I actually got about a MB more of RAM by having CJKOS in ROM rather than as an application in RAM.

I did the SD update using your stripped ROM, then used ROM Tool and set token to 1.15 and then ran the official updater. I did have to do the updater twice. I Had problems with hot synch because I use mNotes that created sync conflict during restore. It went smoothly the 2nd time and the CC-Cap is properly stored. Carrier DB is 270.

Thank you all for your help.

    Regards,

    Scott

There's a LOT of information on ROM's on the site and due to a lot of it being a bit old I would like some clarification on a few things, but I don't want to start yet another ROM thread.

I have a Sprint 650 with 1.13a firmware. All I want to do is use a 4gb sd card; I don't care about removing applications to maximize my memory. I'm assuming all I need to do is replace the NVFS file with a fat32 file (which I can't figure out where I'm supposed to get it from) and follow the instructions for the RomTool and I'll be set, right? Or do I have to update once again to 1.13a after I do this, and if so can I do it through Palms updater?
  14.    #154
Use the ROMTool to remove FATFS and replace with FAT32.

Had a question that when I installed the palmone ENA treo updater and copied the files from the installation directory before clicking cancel the files names were all treo650-*.zip instead of ace-*.zip. I know that the original internal name of the treo was ace ( after ace ventura ?) so did they get around to changing it in the romupdater ? are the two equivalent ?
    Thanks
  16.    #156
It is on file name when compressed and split to upload to the treo and the other is the specific file name it uses internally. I don't know that they are really connected.

    Hi James
    One more question
Is there any way to change partition sizes to be 6 mb... my rom is now under 6 mb but I still have to use the 7.1 partition.... Has anyone managed to crack the partition format in the rom uploader ?
  18.    #158
No one has cracked it. All we have done is exchange the different versions back & forth. the 7.1 came on the cing rom. if palm ever had one smaller we could use it but they are the ones that have created it.

    Features of this custom ROM:
    Added FAT32 Support
    Added Fastmode Blazer
    Added SMS Smiley Fix
    Added Camcorder Icon
    Added Keyshades Hack
Added FileZ (hacked to appear under the "System" Category by default)
Added HandZipper (hacked to appear under the "Utilities" Category by default)
    Removed QuickTour (Tutorial)
    Removed RealPlayer
    Removed Versamail
    Removed WorldClock
    Removed SIM Services
Removed all languages except English & German

After a hard reset I have 22.1mb of 23.4m free and she's more solid than a slab of granite!
