You are right with the backup. The only apps I have in ROM are a few that I would have locked into dbcache with RLock anyway.

Lastly, would I just download the ENA version listed at the top of this thread?
ENA is larger because it has more languages. If you use a stripped ENA it will be smaller. Any of the ENA Custom ROMs will work

On a similar note, after reading every thread on the subject, and Shadowmite's site, I still am missing a piece of the puzzle: can I use a romupdater app by itself solely for the purposes of repartitioning, or must I update firmware and/or flash the ROM at the same time? And if I can use the romupdater by itself, will this wipe my Treo like repartitioning a hard drive? Then a new ROM would have to be uploaded, correct?

    Thanks!
    Checked, Verizon 1.04 8.4MB.

Apps that run in the background all the time such as PowerUp, AltKey, PalmPuke, etc. might as well go in ROM because they are going to be running anyway and you won't be saving anything by having them in RAM.

From mmastracs reply above and some of the other comments,
I gathered that Things can't run from Rom.
Anything in Rom has to be Uncompressed into Ram (NVFS) to Run.
So stuff put in Rom will not gain any "Usable Memory"?

True it won't gain any usable memory but they will be locked into dbcache, because they are uncompresses there. Things running in the background generally need to be locked so they are always in dbcache. By putting them in ROM you don't have to use something like Rlock.

    My Skull is Pretty Thick,
But I think I'm Slowly reconciling these differing opinions.
Thanks for your courteous and patient responses.
I even started drawing a Pie Chart, to help myself w/ a visual aid to understand what is going on deep inside my Treo.
I know it's a little late now, But this topic, as you inferred early on, should have been a Thread of it's own.

Yes, I could see the bootloader screen, but it is too late for me.
I had clled palmone and it cost $179 to replace another treo.
Now I understand that maybe I still have chance to recover treo by upload the rom with rom tool, right?

Ok, I just performed the steps at the beginning of this thread, and it seemed to finish successfully. However, I reset the device and now it just flashes. It won't boot, and the keyboard light, connection light and screen just flash rapidly. What happened?
