    Hi All,

This question may sound really stoopid, but I need your help. I'm trying out romtool and am getting stuck. Steps I took:
    1. Download romtool/dot net - install
    2. got filelist.pdf (from this forum)
    3. reset my t650 (FW- 01.71/SW-1.20 APR) got to bootloader.
    4. started romtool - phone found - since I installed the driver earlier....
    5. wait...and wait and ...

    saw the log:
    6/12/2006 5:17:16 PM Treo 650 ROM Tool v1.0.0.0
6/12/2006 5:17:16 PM Checking for version updates...

6/12/2006 5:17:16 PM Waiting for phone...
6/12/2006 5:17:16 PM Found phone, waiting for bootloader
6/12/2006 5:17:21 PM Error checking for updates: The remote name could not be resolved: 'grack.com'

Don't think the checking for updates has anything to do with it. Just can't understand why its waiting for bootloader?

I tried to reinstall the driver and start over and :-( same result..

I think expert advise = badly needed....

Only when your card is above 2GB, does one format Fat32.

I'd like to start my first post by thanking all the guys that share their work with the less gifted (speaking for myself of course). I have been lingering for the past couple of weeks reading and learning. I did my first rom mod and the process went flawless thanks to rom tool and all the writeups.

Once he has used the fat32.prc, why wouldn't he format his card with fat32?

    You Don't Zip-It.

I believe the rom tool allows to upload either the directory or a zip file of the directory. You have both options. There is a 3rd option but it wouldn't apply in his case, because it uses the palm updater files.

I am aware that these posts are 2 months old, but newbies such as me read them.

It has been observed that if you format to Fat16 instead of Fat32 you get a higher VFSMark speed test.
You however need the Fat32 driver in order to access cards bigger than 2GB.

If you read the Fat32 thread you will find various VFSMark speed tests etc
    Thought of the day :
No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work anyway

Check your bootloader log and security password on the phone... The update checks are done on a separate thread, so it won't interfere with the connection process in any way.

Remove your SD card. For some reason, these things hang up the bootloader every once in a while.

    First of all, MANY THANKS...

this thread (plus reference made from here) has successfully guided me, a "certified dummy", to do a custom rom... again, MANY THANKS.

Going to try out fat32 since I got a great deal (its free) 2 GB sdcard.

Phone has always worked fine and still does. However when I put it in bootloader mode, the USB bubble pops up then after a while says USB Device not recognized. I try to double click that and the Unknown Device and point it to the drivers installed in the folder by treo-650-bootloader-drivers.exe using the Don't Search, Have Disk option but it says that there are no drivers in that folder for my device. Right clicking the INF file doesn't change anything either.

I tried hooking it up to 3 different computers and they all say USB Device not Recognized. The SD card is out of the slot and I've tried plugging the cable into all of the USB ports.

Noticed that HotSync didn't work either. This must have happened after I dropped the phone a month ago (I never use HotSync, just RBackup). After using a heavy duty vacuum on both sides of the connector, plugging it and out of into every USB port I have numerous times, I just sat on the floor and plugged the hotsync cable in and out about 25 times when XP finally recognized the device. Hoping this was the problem.

    Works now... pretty slick

On my 7th Treo and looks like I'll be on my 8th if these HotSync issues keep coming up

    Ahh! I can't find the answer .

Ok, so far, I've extracted the ROM from the phone, pulled out World Clock, language files, Real, GetBC, and that Handango stuff. Now, this is the part I'm confused about..

I zipped it back up, and went to upload it. I keep getting a "No boot.conf in directory" though. It is in there, but is it not finding it because it's zipped? Should I not zip it? From what I've read, it says to, because it'll give a ROM too big error. Well, I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer now.

Never mind, I got it. I thought I was right, but I guess just scared that I'd goof up my phone. Sure, with the ROM tool it's fixable, but, still.

So far, everything's running great. My VFS Mark went from 451 to 780. I did have a crash earlier, I don't know what application it is, or what it is. I picked it up and pressed the Red phone button, and the Crash screen was on (Crash Log, I believe, is the application, it's supposed to restart after a crash, so it doesn't just sit there). There's a series of numbers, then my friend's name, in lowercase, with no space between first and last name, for example, johnsmi for John Smith. Oh well, who knows what's that from.

Now, I know that we shouldn't put excess programs into ROM, but, are there some that might be benificial, maybe something like mSafe or Warden, just in case someone steals it and does a hard reset? I guess it wouldn't matter then, since that would erase the info. I guess I just want to try something out in ROM.

I have a Treo 650 GSM, and it is stuck in the reboot loop. I load the program to access it through the bootloader, and I get this

How can I erase?? I have tried 100 times to do a zero out reset with the up/power/HS/reset button, and it wont do ANYTHING. How do you make the erase command work@!? my treo wasn't working.it is only flickering. Thanks in advance!

    Dear all,

Please find below the log I got when I was trying to upload the Custom ROM I created by simply removing all the other non-Enlglish language files. When I attempted to upload I get the error message "ROM size too big." What does the WARNING: Status = 27 mean? I have created a custom rom but using Firmware 1.43/1.13 ROW and did not have problems.

Just FYI, I couldn't get the uploader to work with an Intel Mac using Parallels Desktop for Mac. It would always give me the "Error 5" at exactly the same spot (784 kb) in the upload process. I was using Windows 2000, not XP, so perhaps that was a factor. Bricked the phone, but the upload went fine when I used a "real" PC running XP and all is well now.

Don't worry - native Mac support is still on my list.

    could somebody please help...
i have deleted all language files except the _dede ones. furthermore i have deleted versamail and all tutorial and setup files.

in the boot.conf's bigrom section i have replaced enUS by deDE (but have not deleted the db entries for other langauge files.)

the problem now is not that my treo is in a reset loop
no, everything is perfect except the keys of the keyboard are not "localized".
i.e. if i hit the "z"-key treo brings up an "y" (and vice versa) and instead the euro-sign, i see the dollar.

does anybody know what to do?
    thx a lot

What would it take to get that bumped to the top of the list?
