Everything went well. My Carrier DB is 249. I thought it was going to be 255.

Fat32 is noticeably faster with my Fat formatted SD card. Next step is to get a 4GB card.
I copied over the Fab4 files from SD to RAM. Once I rebooted my Carrier DB is a lovely 255.

Not sure how my unlocked Cingular GSM phone works any better, but being a Treo geek I want the latest and greatest SW on my device.

First you download your Rom from your Treo to a folder u create on your computer, then you remove what you want, and then upload it again.
    You Don't Zip-It.

Your not actually downloading your 'Rom', just all the files that are part of your OS partition.
You delete what you want to get rid of, and upload again.
Your just uploading less files back into the OS Partition on your Treo.

    Sometimes when I have difficulty,
I start over fresh, from step one.
Create a folder on your desktop named "My Original Rom from Treo" and then download The Rom from your Treo to that new folder. Create another folder on your desktop and name it "Rom to Upload" copy all the files in the Folder you created named "My Original Rom from Treo" to the Folder you created named "Rom to Upload" then delete the files want out. When done, upload the files in the "Rom to Upload" folder back onto your treo, soft reset and that should be it.

I am trying this tool but obviously made a mistake.

    Here is what I did:
    1. Download current ROM (Cingular unlocked)
    2. Copied ROM
    3. Deleted Versamail and Real win copied directory
    4. Deleted old FAT added FAT32
    5. Converted directory to zip file
    6. Uploaded new custom ROM
    7. Did hard reset and phone is now in reset loop

I can stop the reset loop with the booter app but what did I do wrong?

    Thanks for any help
    BD1,

I'm having the same problem as well, and I have what looks to be the same setup (unlocked, from Cingular), and I tried jamesgangut's recommendation to no avail.

If you found any solutions to this issue, please post them, as I'm trying to get out of another issue that I had (probably good for another post) where my Treo locks up immediately after I put in the power cord.

    TIA,

did u say u zipped it, and tried to upload?

    this is what u do.
get to bootload and download rom. delete the things you want removed, and just upload it back onto your Treo.
Why do I keep hearing people say they converted to zip, or zipped it back up?
    Don't Zip It!
    No Zipping!
where did u guys read to zip?

    i have a bit of a problem
a customer dropped off a treo 650 cingular at my shop it is looping.

he said all he did was try to do a reset who knows. anyway.

i try to do a reset, i get the prompt to erase all data, push up for yes and it doest fix it.

so i try to do a warm reset. i hold up and push the reset button, nothing.

last resort, upload a working rom..

i hook it up and i get this.

    /5/2006 5:26:00 PM Validating bootloader
4/5/2006 5:26:01 PM Upload error: does your phone have a security password?

i have no idea what the security password thing is or how to fix it.

i tried typing in erase i get this.

    Cant Mount Disk on Chip.
    Format FATFS Partition

    -------

    Format FAILED

    ok

so i try to do a zero reset..

i hold down power, up, sync and push reset button. it goes into test mode.
it wont do the reset.. any ideas?

try Shadowmites recovery tool and use the smallest ROM possible. If there is a format error, hopefully it will be towards the end, so use a SMALL ROM with just the basics (no versa, blazer, realplayer, guide, encoders/decoders, etc...)

no problem ..... it seems that for some reason... which i don't understand ... the rom tool doesn't "like" an SD card inserted while it's "doing stuff" ..
    glad it helped

    Hi,
After lurking here for a few weeks I finally got the balls to proceed.

Did a backup with RESCO to SD.

    1. I download both the zip+md5 and the directory version.
    2. Remove FATFS & REALPlayer.
    3. Copy Zlauncher.prc into it.
    4. Run ROMTOOL and upload.

Everything runs smoothly... thank you so much

Reset the phone and I was so suprise because all my data was there and no need to restore. I have to manually delete ZLauncher from the RAM before I can see the ZLauncher in the ROM.

YES I do notice some improvement on the speed when reading of the SDCard. I currently have a 512 slow speed kingston SD I have just order a 1GB 133x SD Memory and now the question.

Should I format it in FAT16 or FAT32.

    Thanks
    Jackdon
