I find this thread very confusing even after reading for several days. None of the links lead to files and many of the posts utilize incomplete sentences. Can anyone help me understand the best option for a Treo 650 from Cingular? I would like to have more dbcache along with the best improvements [1.20?] without a huge ROM file. Where are all these custom ROMs posted? how can I learn about the SD method? Why doesn't the Palm Updater work for me? Why do I sound so helpless?

I did create a bunch of ROMs at one time. They were on Rapidshare and when they ran out of disk space they were deleted. Int the mean time I had my notebook destoyed and lost the originals. Since the Romtool it is safer to use I didn't recreate them.

I have unbranded several Cingular Treo's and most of the time changing the tokens will allow you to run the unlocked Palm version. Sometimes it doesn't. When that happens I do have an SD updater I created for our work phones. It has a custom ROM but you could change it via the ROMTool. If you are interested in it PM me & I can email it to you.

Can anyone tell me whether the old Blazer bookmarks (stored on device RAM) are picked up by and work fine with Fast Blazer after you install it in ROM? No biggie, but just wondering whether I should write them all down first.

I've actually been using 4.3 on my T|X for a year or so. My 650 is a relative new addition to my PDA family (family tree in signature).

Your Blazer bookmarks remain the same. If you use a backup program, you could always restore them (if they happen to get lost) from there, using the "restore individual files" option...

FastMode is working fine on my Treo 650. I lifted the two Blazer files from my T|X ROM to use on the Treo (yes, only two really needed). After I launched it and checked preferences, I remembered the one thing annoying about Blazer on the T|X - for some reason the Palm T|X flavor of Blazer does not have a method to set size of browser cache.

All my bookmarks were fine and only a few minor preferences were forgotten in the process. I had removed unused applications, language files, etc during previous ROM hacks. Therefore, I have now freed up just over 2 MB of ROM that, I believe, will be used by the OS for program caching.

Tell me what I did wrong!!! Weather was bad and I was bored, decided to do some housekeeping on my treo 650.

Downloaded lovedatreo 4.3 FM Blazer to try in ROM, ran fine, no resets, no problems after playing with Blazer and different sites. Only thing I didn't like was it reduced my wasted space down to 812kb, I like to keep it around 1 MB.

    After playing around, I deleted:
    Web_Tips.prc
    Web_Tips_enUS.prc

and copied: (to my SD Card)

Deleted Blazer.prc and Blazer_enUS.prc from ROM. Got my wasted space up to 1Mb again. Uploaded the ROM and was able to run FM Blazer from my SD Card.

Again no reset, played with it about 1-2 hours, no problems running in Fast Mode or Wide Page.

I've read so many post that people could not get it to run in RAM. Has anyone tried to run it from their SD Card? I'm really having problems, thinking this is way to easy and I must have missed something.

It's launching from the SD Card and moving the file back when I exit, visited a variety of pages, downloaded a couple files without a problem.

I'll try this later. No time right now. Someone else try this and report! This would be great if it works for me!

    Meant to post this:

    650 unlocked GSM (was Cingular)
    Firmware: 1.71
    Software: Treo650-1.20-ENA

Played a little more with it today, no resets, no problems after a soft reset. BUT, after a hard reset Blazer.prc (only the one file was created) was copied to Ram, if I tried to launch the Copy of Blazer.prc that the reset created in RAM there was an error. Still was able to use FM Blazer from the card without a problem. Had to force a delete of the copy created in RAM as it was showing as a locked file.

After using Blazer and exiting, the only file that remains in RAM is Blazer Cookies, everything else goes back to the card. The problem of the additional file creation on a hard reset is not a major issue for me, as it would be rare for me to do a hard reset, I do a daily soft reset. The file is not created in RAM during a soft reset.

Looking forward to hearing the result of a another test on this.

    anyway, here are the files
Was reading a bit on the FM Blazer as I just upgraded my data plan to 1GB and wanted to try something else besides the webpro I'm regularly using on my 650. Realised that I have already downloaded the files posted by lovedatreo last year(!) so I tried running them from my SD card. My treo reset straightaway. So the next thing I did was to copy the 4 files from my SD card to the ram using Resco explorer. Ran it and it works just like that. No need to remove the original blazer from the ROM.

I'm using the 1.20APR by the way. And I still prefer webpro rendering.

I lost my MMS for awhile and turns out I over-removed a bunch of files when I created my latest custom fastmode blazer rom. I've got it all back and then some, with over 2MB free head space in the rom. If you use MMS and follow shadowmites advice, you'll end up deleting MMS as well as Versamail (multimail).

If there is interest, I can post a zip file to my ftp server. My custom ROM for unlocked GSM Treo 650 has all languages removed 'cept english, no versamail, added datebk6 (latest version), added fast-mode blazer.

I'm sorry if this was asked already but has anyone tried this on an earthlink 650? Having trouble finding any mention of earthlink in 20 pages of posts in this thread

Earthlink is CDMA so same as Sprint will cause a reset loop.

Quick question: I replaced the original Cingular Blazer with FM Blazer 4.3 in ROM. I noticed that in the preferences I don't have the ability to set the maximum cache size anymore? All I get is a button is clear cache as well as a checkbox to "clear cache on exit." Is this normal?
